Tourist trap if you are not careful. They definitely increase prices for all tourist. ASK price before you sit, eat, drink, or touch anything. Nothing is free here to taste or touch. Getting here. Do not take taxi service from el Muelle (pier where you purchase tickets) nor any taxi that is not part of a private taxi firm. We were almost kidnapped and robbed by taxi driver (license plate # TEQ701. He went by the name of Michael. Private security guard on duty from a corporate company on road assisted us and called police. It was raining so hard that street flooded. Police never arrived. Do not count on them to rescue you. Do not negotiate with local street taxi drivers. If you are at a hotel, speak to them about hiring a reputable driver from cooperativa. It will be far cheaper and safer. As for the beach, it's full of toxic vendors trying to sell food, massages, chairs, umbrellas, drinks and boat rides. EXPENSIVE tourist trap. Once you accept, be aware that you may leave without all of your money and soul. Once you set foot on this beach, they surround you and promise the best area. DO NOT get on a boat to travel to playa tranquila. It's the same damn beach strip. Walk along the beach towards decameron and it does get more peaceful and water becomes much clearer. No, you cannot just place a towel and claim a spot. You must pay to stay. My suggestion is to book a stay at the resort hotel decameron which does not allow toxic vendors. We did not stay here but ran into many tourist while visiting Cartagena and they raved on the 5 star service. We will definitely visit again but will stay at resort as it...

The beach on Baru is often described as being full of massage ladies and sellers, but honestly that is the least of the problems. The real issue is the motorboats and jet skis. They go wherever they want, with no regard for people swimming. Jet skis came as close as one meter from us in the water, with all the smoke in our faces, even stopping to offer us a ride. It feels very unsafe and the smell from the fuel is terrible. At one point we saw a jet ski hit the rope of a boat tied near the shore – both the driver and passenger fell into the water about 100 meters from the beach, while the jet ski kept going on its own until it crashed into the sand. There are dozens of them, and the result is constant noise, pollution, and water full of oil.

On top of that, the beach and water are dirty. A lot of garbage is left by tourists and not properly cleaned by locals. The sunset is beautiful, but that’s about the only highlight. Prices are also unreasonably high – 40,000 COP for a single cocktail is just absurd.

We also took the Rosario Islands tour (advertised as a 4-hour trip with free cocktails). In reality, it was a scam: they dropped hundreds of people on a space the size of a tennis court, with dirty water, for only 15 minutes, followed by almost two hours on the boat. Definitely not worth it.

If you plan to move around, know that the real price for a boat from Baru to Cartagena can be as low as 40,000 COP for two people, if you arrange it directly with boatmen on the shore. A taxi from Cartagena to Baru costs about...

The beach WOULD be nice BUT, the buildings are build right on the beach, sometimes there is no space to walk along. Behind the buildings its full of trash and every night the strong smell comes up inside the hostel rooms, really disgusting! Because of that you can't enjoy a meal without ten flies flying around your plate, never saw something like this. Then the irresponsable jetskis driving close to the beach in search of customers, there are no rules for them they drive like crazy where they want and pollute the water unnecessary with gasoline. The corals are already all dead and the poor fish soon too. A lot of vendors everywhere and if you pay not attention, the womens start to massage you while eating, no manners. I had still e chill time there in the lowseason, but if you can, I will reccomend you to go somewhere else enjoying some beachdays and not support this dirty bussines over there. If you still want go, I reccomend to travel by boat from cartagena fo 25000cop, its cheap and fast 45min. First we wanted to go by bus and taxi, but we heard that its not safe to take a mototaxi there because some get robbed, and the drunken kids riding a bike there are more crazy than the jetski drivers...

This is an improvement on the beach at Cartagena / Bocagrande.. but it’s ruined by over development. The entirety of the beach is taken up by vendors so you only have about 1-2 metres of sand to walk on between the vendors and water. I’m so shocked hardly any of these reviews are showing the true reality of what this beach looks like - reviews are supposed to help each other plan our holidays by accurately sharing our experiences! Additionally, there are so many boats and jet skis etc - that you are constantly getting a lung full of thick gasoline smoke. There are even mopeds which pelt up this slim path of sand. I would highly recommend spending a bit more money and going to the Rosario islands on a day trip to get the best experience. If you do want to come to this beach, I’d recommend walking further down the beach as there are slightly less people, boats and the vendors are a little but nicer/less packed in.
