This might be the worst experience I have ever had on a vacation. My family and I (wife and 2 kids) came to this island looking for a good time, and we heard that Black Rock was a fun tourist attraction. But I was shockingly incorrect, as when I went there, everything went downhill. The workers were very disrespectful, and at one point tried to kick us out because my 6 year old said that the black rock was a little boring. They said, in quotations, "If you don't like it, buzz off and find a new island, buddy." My wife and I were outraged, and my 6 year old daughter stubbed her toe because of her sheer anger. We tried to snorkel before all of this, and the water was very green, my son, 9 years old, choked on said toxic water and almost drowned because of it. The sand was gravelly, and the rocks weren't even pretty. This might be the worst tourist attraction I have ever seen, especially for the hefty price of going there. I do not recommend coming here by yourself, or with your family. Thank you...
Read moreA large basalt rock on the shoreline that you can climb on/around, snorkel by and just lay on the beach near. The rock also has much history and culture to the Cook Islanders, so please read the sign before going down to the rock. Good place to see airplanes on approach to the airport too. Parking is free and right at the top. A quick scramble down and you are there. Can walk across the sand at low tide, or during high tide you just slush through short water. Enjoy and...
Read moreAwesome snorkeling if the conditions are right. Check the surf report on surf forecast. Same as the other spots on the island, when there is no wind or big waves it is superb! Get in at the big black jumping rock, if it is low tide go to the left (looking out) and work ur way around the guts between the coral shelves. If the tide is half or more in go to the right head out and around to the right toward the little rock that is...
