Would give it a 3.5 star. Was a great adventure place for the 20 to 40 year old adrenaline seekers. The things I wish I knew before I went...
Safe place with 90% of the staff being friendly and kind. The other 10% herd you like cattle or are pressing you to move it quickly in awkward places like racing across a sky bridge or hiking up a steep hill.
Went with 2 kids and at the entrance they said we could tandem the whole way. Then, only right at the top of the first zipline, they told my little boy (7yrs) he had to go alone. He was in tears not before long. Then at the longer ones they let him go with a guide. Not very sensative to little adventures but he toughed it out.
Expect a 20 minute wait or more if you are at the back of the line at the superman ziplines. Still wasn't that bad.
They do not tell you that there is a sudden jerk at the end of the superman when they brake you coming in. It's a really good jolt. And if you want to do the Tarzan jump, look it up before you go. I suppose it sounds self explanatory but no one there explains to you what it is exactly. Guy pretty much just pushed me off the edge as I was trying to understand what was about to happen. I dont think he spoke any English. It was terrifying mostly because I had no clue what was going to happen or how it worked. It's just a total free fall straight down, like walking off a ledge until you are at the end of the rope then, after a crazy whip lash jolt, it swings you back and forth until they lower you. Zero advice from staff on what to do or how to make it hurt less or how to fully enjoy it.
They ask you, but I'll restate, if you have any kind of back, neck or shoulder injury, or have ever had one ever in the past like whiplash or separated shoulder, do not do the superman or Tarzan. The jolts are just too much. I'm 45 and fit for context.
There is an uphill hike after the Tarzan where they also make you carry your own rig and straps all the way up the incline.
All in all, still a 3.5 star experience. I would have given it a 5 star if things were better communicated, I wasn't herded like a cow, and I had known these things prior to going. Then I would have been better prepared and made smarter decisions. I honestly feel like the zip line workers (not the folks at reception at the entrance) cared very little for people's comfort or mental well being during what is a very terrifying...
Read moreLet me first say that the zip line experience is WELL WORTH the $68.70 (Though we paid cash at the door and only had to pay $60). I would not necessarily count on being able to walk up without a reservation though, especially during the main tourist season and on weekends. The ziplines were a ton of fun and the Tarzan Jump was an incredible thrill. I would HIGHLY recommend doing the Tarzan Jump if you are physically able. It's a bit scary walking up to it but the thrill is worth the scare. As for what some other reviews have said about the staff rushing you through, we felt a little of that, though we went for the 8am timeslot and it wasn't too busy. Even though it was a little rushed I still felt like the staff were focused on both safety and the comfort of the riders. Many of the staff asked me my name and where I was from and built report and they checked in on how we were doing throughout the experience. I went with myself 31yo, my brothers 22yo & my mom 63yo and we all did all of the availability activities. One note is they do have a weight limit of 253 lbs for the ziplines and 220lbs for the Superman Zipline & Tarzan Jump. They have a scale in the office at the start and I went in to be weighed. As a 205lb man I did have to ride both superman lines with my arms out the whole time and it was a bit uncomfortable on my ribs and pectorals. Though the ride was very worth the slight pain. I would caution women with larger breasts that the superman lines in particular may be very uncomfortable.
In summation, this was an experience of a lifetime and is so incredibly worth the $60-70 it costs. They also take some pictures of you along the way and you have the option of buying them after seeing them at the end. I believe it is $10 a person in your group but they said for us that groups of 3 or more get a 50% discount down to $5 a person for a total of $20 for a group of 4. They also have a little souvenir shop with most of the usual Costa Rica tchotchkes at what seemed to be the usual prices. They also seemed to have a coffee machine but I didn't see any other food
The reason I recommend not buying tickets is advanced is because of the discount we got for paying with cash. That said, you do risk showing up and there not being a spot for you. We were staying an 8 minute walk up the road so it was very little risk but if you are traveling far I would book...
Read moreNice place. I felt pretty safe throughout. Good safety briefing - even my 8 year old daughter did all the ziplines - except the Tarzan swing😀- all in all a fairly good experience.
Why not a 5 star experience??
Our group was fairly small - but we still were rushed through things. You come to a platform - they say “hey my friend” and before you know it - you are clicked in to the next thing! “U See my friend - lock, lock, lock” and you are sent off on the next thing. I’m Ok with that - having a little climbing experience already - but many tourists have never tried anything like this and I could See it in their eyes - a little distress not knowing what comes next!
My 8 year old was clicked in to a thing that slowly descends 10m Down before I even reached the platform to Calm her Down - she didn’t understand what she had to do - and I couldn’t tell her because “hey my friend - How are U - whats your name - where U from” click, click click and she was more or less pushed over the side and startet the descend (the guy gently lifted her over the side of the platform and she started the descend) - still trying to catch my attention - “dad whats going on” “where am I going”
Everything was just a little too fast - I accept the fact that there are a lot of people to Go through and that it has to be a little fast - but its never a Nice feeling beeing rushed through (for many) some pretty boundary pushing things
One more thing - serious safety issue - I hope your employee is Ok - the guy who broke his shoulder (is my guess) as he fell from the receiving platform!! He fell 1,5 m head Down
A simple crashpad or some safety net/ webbing would have made his Day a lot better - and safer
3 guys trying to unhook me and my daughter on a narrow platform - Thats too many chefs - and an accident waiting...
