I had the pleasure of visiting this beach while staying in Puerto Viejo.
I had done a little research prior to visiting and noted to our guide that I wanted to visit a black sand beach. hH immediately said- perfect- we will pass one momentarily! As we were heading to our hotel we passed this beach. We came back the following day to actually enjoy the beach
Parking is just like the rest of the town. Basically park where you can! Our guide opted to remain in the car as we explored the beach.
When you take your shoes off and place your feet in the black sand it feels so good. The sand is soft and feels amazing between your toes. Not only does it feel good, but it looks stunning. The sand sparkles! I don’t know that any video or picture will truly capture the true essence e of the sands beauty.
The beach itself is small. There is not a lot of space to lay out. However, I did see a cute area that included table and chairs.
The wave in the ocean were decent. When I went there were people in the water but no one was attempting to swim. I think this beach is best suited for walking in the beautiful black sand and letting the water cool your feet.
If you are in the area- this is a must stop and see for...

There was also a small surf shop walking distance from this beach with a wide range of boards and coaches available. There were also many other fun family activities nearby such as zip lining, hiking and there was even a New Years Eve festival complete...

We just parked on the side of the road and walked up. The sand is not only totally black but also extremely soft and feels great on your feet. It's slightly metallic and shiny as well. I spent hours drawing things in it. It's more of a wading than swimming beach due to rip tides but absolutely worth a short walk or drive from...
