Azul Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Cahuita

We stayed nearby for two weeks, so this was a handy place, right on the edge of the beach, for a late lunch and drinks for most days.

The setting was very beautiful, tree-filled, tropical and relaxing, overlooking the water.

The salads and prawns in particular were fabulous; as well as the desserts. The menu was in English and Spanish.

Milena was a delightful and helpful camarera. She often had a chat and helped correct our very basic Spanglish. All the staff were very pleasant, helpful, and spoke good English.

On the down side, despite our orders always being taken quickly, the wait time for food and drinks was extraordinarily long every day, even when there were hardly any customers.

My partner bought a cocktail every day, and every one of them was disappointing. Perhaps bar staff...

I had the steak and not only was it the worst meal I’ve had in Costa Rica, but was the worst meal I’ve paid that much for in a long time. I actually felt sick after and the following day. The salad bar, grounds, and the resident dog were nice but that’s it. Service was very slow as well. I only went here due to the limited options in the area and it really seems like to caters to retired Americans with no taste- tastes like what I imagine Applebees or Red Lobster tastes like. It’s a shame because with the property it has a lot of potential. Came here for drinks at night. It was pleasant. Drinks were good! Came back the next day for breakfast. Food was alright. Service was slow for food. We sat at our table for several minutes before going to ask for a breakfast menu. There were only 4 other people at 2 tables when we sat down. It did get busier while we were there. I can't imagine the service got any better. The latte was great. I asked for vanilla, which is on the menu as an option, and was told I had to go to the mini market and use the coffee machine for vanilla. Glad I asked for...
