We decided to hike the Reserva Biological to explore something new in Nosara. First we were surprised that they charged $10 to take a back pack with us. You have to go down the side of the mountain using a long flight of stairs which means you also have to come back up the side of the mountain when you are finished hiking. The trails were muddy and not well marked so we were never sure exactly where we were or which trail we were following. Be prepared for lots of spider webs if you are the first one in line! This is not an activity for anyone with any kind of mobility issues. You will have to crawl under trees, over logs, cross creeks, slip in the mud, fight bugs, look for signage, and may not see any wildlife, we didn’t!...

Last month I ran there but it was too muddy so I returned today with my daughter- now it's dry and dusty, trail is impassable in some sections and we ended up exiting out onto the road near Playa Ponies. I only gave it one star because of a few impressive trees (similar to strangler figs but different species) and the beautiful viewpoint toward OSTIONAL we saw from walking thru LL to get back to our quad. We did a night walk here three years ago...aside from that I wouldn't waste your time. Avid...
Read moreEasy to find, but 4x4 car recommended. Very nice staff who adviced us to use repellent. Very much needed (millions of musquitos). Entrance fee for 2 was 22,50 dollars. First 10 minutes of hike were nice, but then terror began (let me add that we are experienced hikers with good shoes). Paths were unclear and not very well maintained. Had to crawl like a hobbit half of the time. The other half consisted of trying desperately not to loose your shoes in the mud. Yes it is rainy season, but a heads up or warning would have been nice. Free beverage at end of walk...
