Bundek City Park, nestled in the Novi Zagreb area, is a beautiful and versatile public space that offers an array of activities and experiences for visitors of all ages.

Historical Background

Bundek Park has an interesting history. Initially, it was a gravel pit, excavated in 1955 for the construction of the Zagreb Fair pavilions and transportation surfaces. The extraction continued until 1960 for the construction of the Freedom Bridge. As the pit was excavated below the groundwater level, it eventually filled with water, transforming into a lake. Over time, the area evolved from a gravel pit into a popular recreational site for the citizens of Zagreb. However, in the early 1980s, the park faced challenges due to unsanitary conditions, leading to a ban on swimming in the lake. This resulted in Bundek becoming somewhat neglected until its renovation and transformation into the modern park it is today .

Present-Day Features

Today, Bundek City Park is a beloved location for relaxation and recreation. It spans approximately 550,000 square meters, offering a beautiful landscape with various activities. Visitors can enjoy walking around the lake, biking, running, and picnicking. The park also has a boat service for those who wish to experience the lake from the water. Besides its natural beauty, Bundek is frequently the site for events and festivals, including the famous Bundekfest music festival and Christmas markets .

Accessibility and Facilities

Access to Bundek City Park is straightforward, with public transportation options available from different parts of the city. The park is well-equipped with numerous parking spaces, and its location near the eastern parking lot of the Zagreb Fair makes it easily accessible for visitors. The park is also equipped with bars and cafes around the lake, offering refreshments and meals .

Bundek City Park is a beautiful oasis located in the heart of Zagreb, Croatia. It's a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a wide range of outdoor activities and entertainment options.

The park is well-maintained, with plenty of green space and walking paths. There are several playgrounds for children, as well as sports facilities for tennis, basketball, and volleyball. The lake in the center of the park is a highlight, offering a peaceful place to relax and take in the scenery.

One thing to note, however, is that the park's restroom facilities are often in disarray. Despite efforts to keep them clean, they can become quite messy and unpleasant to use. This is the one negative aspect of an otherwise wonderful park.

Overall, Bundek City Park is a must-visit destination in Zagreb. Its beautiful setting and variety of activities make it a great place to spend a day with family or friends. Just be prepared to bring your own hand sanitizer and tissues, as the restroom facilities can be...

Great for a little walk, but this space was much better before they overly "cultivated" it. No natural habitats and shelters for biodiversity and wildlife, it could be like a botanical garden and also have educational character, but instead the grass is cut down too aggressively and too often in hottest months, there are no bushes, various shrubs and plants, feels a bit sterile, there are birds but it became too urban and more like a place to take your kids to a playground or have a barbecue, than natural oasis within the city, which we are lacking in Zagreb more and more. All in all, great to have such a place, but I would say it is at its 10% of what it actually could be if put into...

Much smaller, but much cuter than Jarun - in my opinion :) you can sit in the sun and drink coffee or beer, ride a bike or rollerblades (there is a track for that) or even take a swim. You can swim only on the bigger lake/beach, because the smaller lake is for animals only. Also in middle of May you can visit international flower exhibition, it lasts for about a week and the entrance is free. It's worth a visit, Bundek looks quite pretty at that time of year because it's literally covered in flowers. Also there is a plenty of space to have barbecue if you want to, but make sure to clean up the mess afterwards :)
