It is an island some 15 minutes away (1km)from dubrovnik. You can book tickets online (lokrum webshop)or just walk up to the old town pier(turning left from the supposedly beat gelato shop. Ticket kiosk is on the right after the restaurant seating. The boat is brown and white called the zrinski. Carry some sandwiches and beer from the store before the entrance if you want or there are plenty of nice restaurants on the island. It is a beautiful island with lots of trees and shade. Star attraction is the stunningly beautiful peacocks walking around and are comfortable in your presence.Dont feed them and dont touch them please. You can check out the monastery(not functional) but you have a nice looking restaurant here and the iron throne where you can sit on and take pictures . A bit of a steep climb on a stony broken path to the right to the ruins of the small fort and nice views. Do check out the corner bench next to the exit with the best view. Then back down to the monastery( you can use the lavatory here if you want) towards the small water body where you can swim if you want. You can play volleyball and football as it has option for both and of course play zone for little kids. Plenty of areas on this island where you can go down the steps to the water. Took us some 4hrs back to the pier in dubrovnik. You can take maybe 5-6hrs if you want to picnic sitting on the benches near the monastery or eat at the restaurants. While sitting on the benches peacocks do come looking for food but keep it high on the benches. Dont feed them. They just hover around and dont say anything. Overall keep this for the last day...

Najviši vrh otoka je Glavica a visina iznosi 96 metara. U njegovom južnom dijelu je smješten krški fenomen ovog otoka, 10 m duboko slankasto jezero nazvano Mrtvo more. Uz raritetno bilje botaničkog vrta otok je obrastao planikom, lemprikom, tršljom, zelenikom, mrčom, vrijesom, smrijekom, sominom, česvinom, osobito borom i čempresom. Povijest

uredi

We visited Lokrum island via ferry. You need to buy your ticket in the Old Town Port. We showed our Dubrovnik Pass and we paid €37 for two return tickets.

Lokrum is a beautiful island which provides some solace from the madness that is Dubrovnik in high season.

I picked up a paper map from a tourist information centre in Dubrovnik which was very helpful. However, you don't need this as there are plenty of clear maps around the island.

There is plenty to do and see, including exhibitions, historical sites, and natural beauty.

I would recommend bringing solid walking shoes as some of the paths are very rough and ready. I saw plenty of people in fabulous sandals but struggling on some of the paths.

I'd also recommend bringing some swim shoes as most of the swim spots are rocky.

There are several locations on the island for snacks, meals, and drinks. We brought a packed lunch to save money.

The swim spots are lovely and several have showers to rinse off after a dip.

The only downfalls we could think of was that the price was a bit steep and some of the walking paths are poor, including the 'path of paradise'.

All in all we had a stunning day which including iced coffees, walking, view points, swimming and sun bathing...
