Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Krk — Attraction in Grad Krk

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the spiritual heart of Krk. Built on the remains of Roman baths, the site has been used for Christian worship since the 4th century. The present Romanesque design dates back to the 11th–12th century, though the first written record is from 1186. The cathedral forms part of a larger complex with the Church of St. Quirinus, a 16th-century bell tower, and several chapels. Inside, visitors can admire Corinthian columns, medieval chapels, and details added by the noble Frankopan family. Despite its long history of transformations, the cathedral remains a peaceful and impressive place to step back into centuries of faith and tradition. Katedra Wniebowzięcia - budynek górujący nad całym miastem Krk. Budowla gotycka, jako jedyna w okolicy zwieńczona kopułą w kształcie cebuli, widoczna z wielu punktów w całym mieście. Budowla znajduje się na placu Sv. Kvirina w sąsiedztwie romańskiego kościoła Sv. Kvirina, który obecnie pełni funkcję galerii sztuki sakralnej. Najcenniejszym jej eksponatem jest pozłacany ołtarz z 1477r. Wąskim portalem wchodzi się do samej katedry (wstęp 10kn), która została wybudowana w 1186r. na miejscu wczesnośredniowiecznej bazyliki. Najpiękniejsze zdjęcie całego starego miasta z kopułą owej katedry można wykonać z małego molo, na które traficie idąc na wschód bramą pizańską w kierunku...

Cattedrale realizzata con vari interventi successivi. L'origine è la basilica paleocristiana del Quinto Secolo, costruita sul sito di antiche terme romane. La cattedrale ha poi subito parecchie modiche che si riconoscono nei vari stili presenti: dal romanico, al gotico, al rinascimentale, al barocco. Nella sala iniziale della visita sono presenti cimeli di questa storia. L'accesso alla cattedrale avviene attraverso una ripida scala in discesa verso il piano terra, scala da risalire per l'uscita. Stupiscono un po' tutti quei monitor, sicuramente comodi per chi assiste alle funzioni, ma che snaturano la struttura stessa e la storia. IMHO nulla di speciale, più bella da fuori...
