This used to be the entrance to the Roman city of Salona and must have been impressive. Unfortunately it is missing most of the upper structure that would have made it impressive. However you can see the grooves in the road from ancient carts passing through.

It's worth a visit as a part of the Salona tourist attraction which also includes the ruins of a large amphitheatre, archeological museum, and early Christian churches amongst other things.

When I went in summer 2018 entrance to Salona was 30kn for adults or 50kn for a combined ticket with the Split...

This is what remains of the former main gate to the city of Salona. The walls around the gate are in decent shape, but nothing remains of the arched gate or the portico on top of it. The two towers that used to flank the gate are reduced to traces of foundations. The neat thing is that the Roman road survives here in pretty good condition and you can clearly see the grooves for...

The place is worth seeing when visiting nearby city of Split. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend coming here solely for these ruins. The path leads us along on what used to be city walls. We can see ancient tombs, churches, houses, public bath and amphitheatre. Price is fair. You can purchase some souvenirs at...

Es lohnt sich längere Zeit für Salona entdecken zu planen .. wunderschönes Ort das einen zurück im Geschichte bringt .. wenn sie am morgen hin gehen - Fängen Sie vom Amfiteatar an .. bei andere Seite gibt's ein Paar Bäume wo sie aus dem Schatten Pause genießen können Ein wenig Kontrolle würde nicht shaden ( Hunde hinterlassen viele " Überraschungen" auf dem Weg und kapute Bier Flaschen zwischen die Ruinen sehen nicht schön aus
