Please DO NOT take a tour of El Capitolio.

A ticket is exhorbitantly priced, and let's not forget where the money goes... straight into the hands of a dictatorial government that has absolutely strangled its citizens. A dome that was restored in gold a few years back while people starve and the streets surrounding the building are littered with garbage.

$20USD/EUR for a 45-minute tour (they didn't get a PENNY out of me). This is the same amount of money that most Cubans earn in A MONTH. Let that sink in.

If you look at other parliamentary building tours around the world, you will find that the majority of them are free. WHY? Because it's a government building and ultimately considered the house of "the people."

OF COURSE the Cuban government charges for this tour. While it's absolutely shameful, if you know Cuba (at all), you know it's not surprising. A country that takes advantage of tourist dollars (and charges whatever the heck it wants), while the people live in squalor practically next door and see next to NONE of the proceeds.
