Budova městského muzea a galerie ve stylu německé neorenesance byla postavena jako reprezentativní vila významného podnikatele a tehdejšího starosty Budiga, podle projektu architekta Ryšavého. Rodině Budigů patřila do roku 1945, o dva roky později bylo do konfiskované budovy umístěno městské muzeum. Původně šlo jen o jednoduchou budovu, na počátku 20. století byla rozšířena dvěma křídly, kde bylo umístěno technické a hospodářské zázemí. Zajímavost: vedle muzejní budovy v Klicperově ulici je na zdi vyvedena plastika města Svitavy. Jejím autorem je polský sochař Wit Pichurski.
The object of the city museum and gallery in the style of the German Neo-Renaissance was built as a representative villa of the important businessman and former mayor Budig, according to the project of the architect Ryšavý. It belonged to the Budig family until 1945, two years later the city museum was placed in the confiscated building.
