Ditsong National Museum of History is a great and peaceful place to visit, not forgetting the educational part of it. The exhibits were well-curated and informative, with clear signage and engaging storytelling. The staff were friendly and helpful, making sure that visitors had a comfortable and enriching experience. I appreciated the variety of exhibits, from natural history to cultural heritage, which provided a comprehensive understanding of our rich history.
The museum's facilities were clean and well-maintained, making for a pleasant visit. The atmosphere was calm and conducive to learning, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the exhibits. I highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in history and science. Whether you're a student, a history buff, or just curious about the world around you, Ditsong National Museum of History is a must-visit destination.
The museum's ability to balance entertainment and education makes it an excellent choice for families and groups. Overall, my visit to Ditsong National Museum of History was an enriching experience that I will always treasure. What i love the moat about Ditsong museum is that it is kids friendly, they get to see all the inhabitants and their history. Read moreWe took our 130 Gr 5s on an educational outing to the museum. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The grounds and the museum itself was clean. The main tour guide was very knowledgeable and explained everything to the children. Although some of the displays are outdated, the children were fascinated and enthralled. We were privileged to see Mrs Ples in a special exhibition. For most children this was their first visit to the museum. The visit definitely instilled in them the desire to learn new things beyond the classroom. We could enjoy our picnic lunch outside. The only thing that we found disturbing was that several vendors were allowed through the gates to sell their wares to us. But that didn't ruin the overwhelming positive experiences we had. I recommend that parents should take their families for a visit there. Their children can learn so much about our natural heritage of birds, fish, geology, human development and archeology. There is no restaurant there anymore so you need to pack in some lunch during the day. It takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours if you explore the museum as a family. I think you may ask them to take a break and return after some snacks. They don't allow eating and drinking in the building. We were grateful that there was no litter inside nor outside. Take a plastic bag with you for food containers and bottles. I'll remember this visit for...
Read moreI remember visiting the museum for the last time when I was in primary school - we slept over (brilliant memory).
On a recent visit with my own children it really felt like a blast from the past. The museum seems to have been frozen in time. Nothing much has changed, which is both good in the sense that the museum had always been interesting and the exhibitions packed with info; but also sad, because a fresh eye and new, modern exhibits would give the museum a much needed update (a museum should feel 'alive', especially for a new generation of children to be enticed). The building itself has always been magnificent.
Some of the exhibits are showing signs of neglect (preserved butterflies litteraly turning to dust...; an invitation to enter a biweekly competition to win a R5 voucher for the museum shop, with entries sent to the Transvaal Museum dept head...)
The dino skeletons outside are very cool, but it's a pity the surrounding area smells of urine... The museum itself is very clean though.
Friendly staff. And safe, fenced guarded museum parking, just around the corner off Paul Kruger street for only R10. (Pass the whale skeleton and turn left immediately, then left again at the palisade gate - a guard will open)
A good way to spend an hour or so during the school holidays and my kids had fun, despite my...
