I LOVED this 137-year-old-house; it was impeccable inside, and was well-tended-outside, as well. I thought the separate-round-building-outside was especially awesome for that time-period; it was refrigerated. THEY had a half-length-of-the-property-just-for-their-horse- stables-with- an-attached-flats(FLATS in AFRICA MEANS apartments)-area, where the groomers resided. LOVELY gardens, and the largest roots of a 🌲 that I have ever seen; the tree was over-100-years-old, but the branches were perfect. Green and full-with-many-many-branches, and it was GIGANTIC!!! There were several separate buildings in addition to the ones mentioned outside and a gorgeous fountain with FLOWERS BLOSSOMING surrounding it in the front yard and just across- the-street-a- GRAND and GLORIOUS-Park, with the most-beautiful-blossoming-trees-and-the-blossoms-are-the-brightest-sunshine-yellow-that-your-mind- can-imagine. As you walk into the park, the trees are on both sides of the walk. Spectacular! From the upstairs-wincows-of-the-house-there-are-some- perfect-views-into-the-park. NOW, the unexpected, there was-a-group of singers, most-likely-a- church-choir; they were incredibly-blended and sounded-totally-professional; they were rehearsing the entire time I was visiting the mansion. The music added DELIGHTFULLY to my time spent THERE ‼️ I fully-enjoyed-peering-out-the-windows; they were covered with almost a light-light-croquet-loosely-woven-off-white-thicker- thread, but LOOKED divine and VERY-DELICATE-and-classey. The house was built-to-PLEASE-EVERY-SINGLE-WHIM-THAT-ANY -EYE(FABULOUS PAINTINGS-THAT-SOMETIMES-COVERED-MOST-OF-the-wall-were-hung-precisely-throughout-the-house) or-any-HEART-MIGHT-EVER-DESIRE, such as, the carefully designed- wallpaper, which was no doubt arranged for in England and brought to SOUTH AFRICA ‼️ It was ALL of UNIQUE DESIGN and matched-each-setting-exquisitely. WHILE within my lifetime, I couldn't cover-the-details-of-everything;therefore, I have chosen to mention a few pieces that were indelibly-pressed in-my-mind. The nursery was one of the last rooms that I stepped into: a cradle filled-with-baby-dolls; twin-beds, and one had a silk-and-satin-white-blessing-or-christening-baby- dress-laid-out-on-the-bed; it was priceless ‼️ It was displayed- horizontally, so the ruffles-drifted down the side of the coverlet. Laying next to it, were some-baby-sized-tulle-soft-pink-long-gloves - this completed-the-fairy-tale-picture-life-this-little- princess-would-actually-live. I have never seen baby-gloves like those before, but I didn't live in the 1800s and make everything by ✋. ANOTHER ENTIRE room showed a chronological history on the walls of the room, with pictures of the family INDIVIDUALLY-and-as-a-group, listing various events of the family members. It was LOVELY ‼️ In the lady-of-the-house's Bedroom, there was a mannequin with a tapestry-patterned-dress on; she obviously really liked PINK, because just below the stately-dress were some EXCEPTIONAL-PINK-SATIN-SHOES-with-about-a-two-inch-heel. A-PERFECT-MATCH-for-the-dress, and on the arm-of-the-over-stuffed-easy-chair, set the DELIGHTFUL-black-hat, which I believe she wore with the pink outfit. I WAS ACTUALLY HAPPY to grab that hat and put it on my own head ‼️ It WAS A REAL-EXPERIENCE, that I don't think I will forget. Thanks so much for letting me SHARE this historical-experience with you. If you ARE in South Africa, I invite you to go THERE; the cost is minimal, as to the amount you WILL LEARN. And when you go, DEFINITELY TAKE A LOOK-IN-THE-DRESSING-ROOM, WHERE the sewing was done ... Not one, but TWO of the OLDEST most antique-sewing-machines in superb condition, I've EVER SEEN are right THERE ‼️ ENJOY ‼️ SMILES ‼️ HAPPINESS‼️😁 ♥️🇿🇦 🌍‼️ PRAISE GOD AGAIN and ALWAYS ‼️😁‼️ JOY...
Read moreVery interesting and genuine antiques sold at a market which takes place annually (I think). The house itself is a wonderful place to visit if you are into that kind of thing. Unfotunately, the location has become a problem. It feels unsafe due to self appointed car guards who physically fight each other to point one to a parking space. And when you accept one "offer", the other person would make you feel threatened. Some sell parking tickets, which leads you to believe that there is an allocated parking area arranged by the organisers, but this is a scam. On closer inspection, one can see that these tickets are homemade. Besides this problem, still a...
