The Flag Square, Plaza de la Bandera in Spanish, is the biggest monument dedicated to the Flag of Dominican Republic, is located in one of the busiest areas of the city of Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), at the intersection of the Avenues February 27 [es]and Gregorio Luperon. It is a patriotic monument seeks to pay tribute to one of the most important national symbols of the nation.

The current Flag Square was built in 1978 during the government of Dr. Joaquín Balaguer as the center of a complex of public buildings including the headquarters of Ministry of Defense, the Central Electoral Board, the Institute for Price Stabilization (INESPRE), the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) and the Center for Import and Investment, among others.

In February 1997, President Leonel Fernándezreopened the monument after having undergone a remodeling, and renamed Flag Square (Plaza de la Bandera), replacing Independence Square, as it was originally called.

I walked the whole way from the caribe tours bus station to here (I was curious to see it and didn't feel like catching the bus to get there) , I had no idea what it was at the time of visit but it's a monument dedicated to the flag of the Dominican Republic. Underneath the flag are statues, the flag itself is gigantic. I was surprised how large and crowd-free this monument is, although it is surrounded by the busy road with heavy traffic coming from west part of Santo Domingo and beyond. Completely free, no entry fees or anything. I saw only two people even though it's almost the size of a soccer field. Definitely a hidden gem and worth the journey.

A very iconic place in the Dominican Republic's culture. It's totally free of charge. There's a statue that represents a important moment in our history, you can research for more and it's really hot because there's no roof or tress where you can sit without being bothered by the sun or where you can chill, you can take nice pictures there or exercise. It marked history by protestors on February 2020 against government fraud during elections. It will always be symbol or rebellion, freedom and Dominican pride and hould be treated with respect and taken care of.
