An atheist, Guayasamìn, has a large collection of religious art created by indigenous people in the Quito school. These are displayed the way the artist wanted them to be seen. Look for lots of angles and saints with their eyes 👀 cast towards the sky.

this place also has a perfect view of the town. On a good day, you can hike up around the metropolitan park right by the north of this museum.
be sure to leave enough time (half hour) for the bilingual (spanish/english) guided tour in the artist Oswald Guayasamin's home and studio. the tour is very clear and the guide definitely knows a lot of the beloved artist and his work.
The ticket was $10, it's possibly expensive for local standards while most other places cost nothing to 2$ and a full lunch set costs 3-4$. i personally think it is worth the price. but hope there is some discount for the local people...
Read moreThey offer tours in English as well as Spanish (tours are free and the mandatory way to go through this part of the museum). We were not able to take it unfortunately as we explored the grounds here and then went to Capilla del Hombre and didn't have time afterwards. The staff was so nice though and tracked us down to say they could do the English tour for us now and we felt very bad they put in that effort for us but we had to get going.
