The museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the indigenous peoples of Ecuador, as well as the science behind the Equator line. I found the exhibits to be engaging and informative, with plenty of interactive displays and hands-on activities. One of the highlights of my visit was standing on the Equator line itself. It was a surreal experience to be standing in two hemispheres at the same time and to see the various scientific demonstrations that proved we were indeed at the Equator. The staff at the museum were friendly and knowledgeable, and were happy to answer any questions I had. They provided a guided tour of the museum, which added to the overall experience. In addition to the exhibits, the museum also has a beautiful outdoor garden area with various sculptures and traditional dwellings that showcase the culture and history of the indigenous peoples of Ecuador. Overall, my experience at the Intiñan Site Museum was fantastic. It was a great way to learn about the science and culture behind the Equator line, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Quito. Whether you're a history buff, a science enthusiast, or just looking for a unique experience, this museum is definitely worth a visit.

Touristy for a good reason — recommend to pay the $5 here (as of mid 2024) instead of the monument next door which cost the same because here you get a 1-hour tour guide (mandatory) to walk you around (in English or Spanish) to share some artifacts and exhibits about the country and history, in a small group of 5-12 people. The guides were generally amiable and experienced. The wait was reasonable, about 10-15 minutes. Yes the “scientific experiments” may not be really proven or accurate at all, but it’s quite fun to take part in some of them as first-hand experience (the famous egg balancing, water pouring, and walking in straight line experiments). Tips are optional at the end of the tour if you enjoyed the tour. You just walk in and pay for the ticket upon entry. Note this is the “real” latitude 0 line in red, instead of where the monument of Middle of the World City was located (the yellow line).

Truly interesting museum, they have guinea pigs, a llama, explanations about native populations and the equator line with all sorts of tests Except... 1. That's not the real equator line (which is actually just outside the museum parking lot, on the road) 2. The Coriolis effect and the egg test are (unfortunately) fake 3. The guides make you think the above-stated are true, deceiving you into thinking it's the real thing 4. The shop just outside with the women weaving (see pic) sell you products saying they are handmade and made out of natural fabrics, but they are not (I asked a textile expert) PS: don't get me wrong, I did have fun and it was a nice experience, but more transparency would go a long way and I consider it very important.

My boyfriend and another couple came here for a quick visit while en route to UIO to head to Galapagos in October 2017. This was someplace I wanted to see while only having 5 hours of free time in Quito and upon recommendation from the owner at Blue Door House (Alejandro) he said he could take us there during our airport transfer on the way to UIO. It was a super cool place to visit. This is not the monument but the real equator. There are great science experiments that they do right in front of you. Water goes down a sink different ways depending which hemisphere and then straight down on the equator. Egg balancing on a nail head on the equator. Try to walk the equator line with your eyes closed. Really fascinating stuff!

Entrance fee is $4USD- which keep in mind if you are a budget traveller and want to visit all 3 “equator sites.” We visited this site after the Mitad Del Mundo Park and thought both had an equal balance of Ecuadorian History exhibits, science experiments and over the top tourist attractions. This site is located directly behind the iconic monument so just hop off the bus and walk down the road a few minutes. The entrance doesn’t look like much and can use a bit of landscaping (especially since entrance is only $1 less than the other park). We did not go in but managed to walk around the entrance enough to get the vibe of the park. If you want to visit the true equator line in Ecuador this is the place.
