Osirion – The Greatest Mystery of Ancient Egypt The Osirion is one of the most intriguing and mysterious sites in Egypt, and if you're a fan of ancient history and enigmas, this is a must-see. Located near the Temple of Seti I at Abydos, the Osirion is believed to be a temple or tomb dedicated to Osiris, the god of the afterlife. What makes it so fascinating is its mysterious age and architectural style. Some researchers believe it predates the known dynastic period, suggesting it could be thousands of years older than the surrounding structures. The construction of the Osirion is also unlike any other ancient Egyptian temple — it’s built from massive stones, and the way it’s designed doesn’t quite match typical New Kingdom architecture, raising questions about its true origins. The most mind-boggling feature is the underground chamber, which contains a large, sunken pool. The whole site feels ancient, mysterious, and even mystical, as if it holds secrets about Egypt’s earliest religious practices and beliefs. If you're looking for something off the beaten path with an aura of the unknown, Osirion is a place where history still feels alive with mystery.

I feel incredibly blessed to have visited this site. I took a private tour with a costly permit—and they’re not kidding about the price! For those who can sense powerful energies and connect with shamanic and esoteric realms, this place is truly extraordinary. It carries an air of mystery and intrigue, leaving many questions unanswered. Even the locals struggle to explain what actually happened here. No one knows where the water comes from or why the inside of the temple remains so damp and moldy. If you really want to experience this site, pay the price and get the permit—it’s absolutely worth it! But be sure to choose a guide who truly understands the history beyond what’s written in books. Find someone who knows how these private tours work and will have your back. Unfortunately, many guides take advantage of naive travelers, overcharging them or providing a subpar experience. Do your research and make sure you’re getting a knowledgeable and trustworthy guide.

Magnificent place but super disappointing to no longer be able to go into the actual complex. Currently, you can only see it from above- they no longer allow visitors access to the actual complex. This means, you can not get near the water- nor can you see the Flower of Life - huge highlights and for many, the main reason to make the trip out to abydous in the first place. As another review said, and was confirmed by a guard and a souvenir seller, it seems Cairo decided to shut down access and it’s extremely costly to even get permission (most say the same thing around 30,000 egp). Still it’s hard to give a bad review when you see the complex itself. Also - a visit to Abydous temple (temple of seti 1) which is on the same grounds is a bit of a consolation prize. Tickets for SETI 1 including the Osirion was 200 egp cash at the time of this writing ticket computers and office was being renovated.
