Usually combined in a day trip from Luxor with the Dendara Temple, we actually stayed at the House Of Life hotel which is literally metres away from the entrance of the temple. This enabled us to be the only visitors at the site when it opened and for the next three hours when the first tour bus arrived.
The temple was constructed in the 13th century BC by funnily enough Seti I. After completing about half of the temple, Seti I decided to let his son, the future Ramses II, to complete construction by dying. Ramses II eventually completed the temple.
The 19th Dynasty temple is unusually L shaped and constructed of white limestone. 36 sandstone pylons adorn the interior the temple.
Some of the most exquisite wall decorations can be found here many with the original dynamic colours.
In the first hypostyle hall when you look up you may be lucky to locate the famous Helicopter Heiroglyph near the roof.
Also located at the site in the Gallery of Kings is the famed Abydos King List.
I would recommend a good two to three hours to walk around the entire site and fully appreciate the workmanship of this...

A wonderful trip we shall come back each time...
