Beautiful piece of history and a peek into the end of the Middle Ages. The chateau is completely in tact and just stunning to see. The sheer size of it is impressive let alone the fact it is still standing today. You can visit nearly every room and are able to go onto the roof top to see the surrounding area and the massive Rhone river. The rooms no longer have furniture but the place leaves you in awe nonetheless. You can also visit the small garden that is situated in an interior courtyard. There is also a few rooms with artifacts. Do not miss seeing this chateau/fort especially if you love history and...

Such an amazing well preserved Castle. You get to go through a good part of it and there is a little bit of history for each room. Many different language pamphlets so everyone can enjoy. A good selection of souvenirs in the gift shop and really yummy caramel. They wouldn't let us in 30 minutes before the midday close, and I see why. It wouldn't have been enough time to really enjoy it. So while it says it closes at 12:30 or 17, don't get there an hour before close. Really leave yourself time...

Built in the first half of the 15th century, at the intersection of land and river routes linking Provence to Languedoc. Until 1481, he controlled the political border of the Rhône. A link between the cities of Avignon and Arles, Tarascon was, throughout the Middle Ages, the territorial base of expansion and conquest of the counts of Barcelona then the dukes of Anjou, who became counts of Provence

The castle is often referred to as le château du roi René (King René's castle). Replaced a fortress, built on the site of the Roman town to monitor the border of Provence. After the destruction perpetrated in 1399 by the bands of Raymond de Turenne, the Anjou family decided to rebuild it entirely. It was turned into a military prison in the 17th century, until its acquisition by the state in 1932.
