I found this by far the best place to visit in Calais, and I very much enjoyed my visit to the town.

I'm a sucker for a good view, and the view from here was excellent. A full 360 degree look over the town and the channel.

I was the only English person being shown around and the guide explained everything to me in perfect English. She even let me have some more time to admire the view while she did the French section of the tour.

The tour itself was very enjoyable. Lots of very interesting information.

The guide was extremely helpful and friendly. I spent ages taking pictures, but she didn't complain, even when I didn't realise it was after their closing time.

If you're in Calais (and not scared of heights) I would definitely recommend...

⭐️ Such an ugly phallic symbol, rising out of nowhere. 🗼 Made of cement, with no personality—just tall for the sake of being tall. 🧱 And even then, it’s not that tall—it only seems that way because the buildings around it are so small. 📏 It’s a lighthouse, technically, though it feels more like a leftover from another era. 🕯️ These days, boats use GPS, so maybe it’s just here to guide submarines. 🛸 Getting here is a mood-killer—you pass warehouses, empty lots, and a general sense of neglect. 🚧 The weather doesn’t help either: gray skies, wind, and damp air only make the whole thing feel more depressing. 🌫️ In the end, it’s just an ugly construction. 🎭 And ironically, it stands as one of the few “towers” in the proud town...

There are great views from the city and the beach, the guide explained us the history of Calais, the lighthouse and the important buildings and palces you could see. Maybe some repairs are needed in the exposition of the beginning, but the service and views are something exceptional. You don't need the best condition to go upstairs, but I would recommend to not push yourself. Sometimes it can get very windy, so keep everything as...

The Calais lighthouse is a great place to stop and be able to get a great view of the city. It's easy to find, and the tickets to walk up to the landing are very reasonable. There is a nice little history that you see before going up, with dioramas and photos. The staff are all so friendly and answer all your questions. On clear days, you can see across to England. It was not a clear day when we went. 😭 The view was still spectacular.

I have wanted to climb a lighthouse again since my memories of doing so as a child were thrilling. Most in America are no longer available to see inside. This one had quite the climb to a fabulous view of the port. Unfortunately it was a wee bit hazy so we could barely make the outline of England across the channel. Worth the 5.5 euros entrance fee.

Awesome place. We had a good time and weather and managed to get to the terrace. Our guide was very helpful and patient with us and our many questions. I definitely recommend a visit to this lighthouse. As far as I understand, in very good weather, Britain can be seen quite well. We saw only faint outlines.
