My wife picked up a brochure on this chateau and we went to see it on the way to Honfluer. It was set a such a beautiful old world town. It felt like going back many, many centuries. The little shops and restaurants were a treat. We even drank our freshly made lemonade looking at the beautiful castle setting. The castle was fun walking through the open grounds and up the tower spiral staircase. It took time to walk up to the top. Some people were laughing as they tried getting up the staircase to the top. It was worth the effort. The turrets and fortress walls were an enjoyable adventure. It was a beautiful day to go back 1000 years and experience the many centuries of building and destruction that took place. We had a very pleasant side trip to this very special town and castle before heading off to our final destination of Honfluer. I definitely would recommend visiting this wonderful place!

A great medieval castle. Plenty to look round at and good for kids to explore. Very good English audio guide included in the cost. However be aware that there are a LOT of steps. Some of which are quite steep. Great views of the surrounding area and town from the rop of the ramparts and towers. Well worth the effort of climbing them. There is some limited access for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Even if you are unable to climb the steps there is still quite a lot of interesting ruins to look at and the centre area is very pretty. Plenty of seats for resting weary legs and knees! If you have a motorhome (camping car) there is a free aire where you can stay overnight. Just a short walk from the castle entrance. My second picture, taken from the rear of the castle, shows the Camping Car Aire. I enjoyed my visit very much and will return if I am in the area again.

The castle in Fougeres, if you got to Brittany is worth a visit. And if you are with children, then you need to come here necessarily. You will definitely see a vivid example of a medieval fortress, pictures from the life of citizens and peasants of that time. It is very well preserved. The castle, the surrounding area very clearly allows you to feel the spirit of the time. As far as, of course, it allows you to make a binding to various stamps, speculation, as well as a lack of real, documentary historical knowledge. The modern city, of course, also affects this perception. You can propriyat private order, you can with a good guide, in a group. You can, if lucky, to participate in the historical reconstruction. There are plenty of free parking. Directly not a good souvenir shop. Tickets are cheap. Where to eat. Highly recommend. Have been there twice already.

It’s a great castle to visit and learn lots from. The entrance fees are attached to my review, check it out (up to April 2024). There was a bit of a queue during the afternoon shift. Consider going earlier or get the tickets in advance. They have brochures in different languages so don’t be afraid to request one. The audio guides are available in different languages too. There was a tour included (in French only). You can take up to 2 hours going around the castle and the towers. I highly recommend visiting if you’re close by. The place is also located in a commercial area so there are restaurants and bars just in front. Plan ahead and enjoy the castle!

The Castle is very well preserved and displays great details from its history. The visit starts with a 10-min movie which explains a bit of the general history of the region. Not highly entertaining but interesting to know. The rest of the visit is easy with audio-guide but slightly light on content if done without them. Some of the small games for kids are not working anymore which is a bit disappointing. The castle is extremely well located in the middle of the city of Fougères. Ideal to do an afternoon walk with a castle visit.
