Terrible experience. I've never had such poor service in my life.
We came as part of a very large group, originally we were supposed to collect our equipment across 2 or 3 different stores (I believe the associated Henri Sports in the centre commercial, and another in l'eclose) but our travel agent was informed ON THE DAY that there would only be one, and the collection time was from 8AM to 10AM. We arrived at 9:15AM and waited outside Ski Set Henri Sports IV L'Eclose for 6 HOURS until 3:30PM. We lost an entire ski day.
There were around 50+ people waiting but for them to take 6 hours to handle is extreme. Apparently some waited for hours and didn't even get the rentals in the end. I understand that they had staff shortages but the way this situation was handled was abhorrent, and there must have been ways for them to avoid what happened.
The icing on top was when we were returning our skis, we came all the way back to the L'eclose shop by taking Alpe Express and walking there. It was miserable since there was a big snowstorm and we had so many things to carry. Once we got there the staff told us it was not their job to check in our skis despite us having instructions from our travel agents to return them there. They obviously had the necessary equipment to return the skis, with the computer and the cashier there. We found the service there at Henry Sports dismissive and unhelpful.
Hopefully we all get, at the very least, an apology. Ideally compensation. I have no idea if that will happen though. If I could give this store negative stars I would.
As a final note the rentals were bad as well. The shoes were worn out, and my friend paid extra for the expert rentals but got low quality ones that were obviously quite old. My shoes were too loose. I asked them to size down despite their protests and they were still too large. I think the lining was too thin from age and use. Shins are still bruised.
UPDATE: For your reference we were definitely not 400+ students, we were 250-350, of which I estimate ~60 brought their own equipment, meaning that the store served around 220 people. Still a lot I admit but when I was waiting there were less than 100 in line, maybe around 50.
There must have been some better way, i.e. stagger the wait times, i.e. open the other shop as promised, i.e. simply place a cap on the number of people you can serve by knowing your own capacity. That there were too many people does not justify a 6 hour wait. As for the hard discount, yes the rentals were a very fair price but they are not excessively cheap. I paid £99 for 6 days which is still substantial. I find it surprising that they still...
Read moreWe visited Skiset over the Christmas 2022 period- we made an enquiry we equipment store as we were staying in a camper van. Celine took pity on us and kindly allowed us to leave our gear throughout our holidays for a small fee. All staff were extremely friendly and welcoming whenever we entered the shop. More importantly we received expert advice (in perfect English) from Quentin re ski hire with view to later purchase a pair. He patiently listened to our requirements and gave us some skies to try. My wife was allowed to exchange the hire skies and was promptly issued with another pair once she had provided some feedback. The next pair suited her perfectly. At no point were we put under pressure to go ahead with a purchase. Overall, we had a very positive experience from leaving our equipment, advice on buying a new ski, renting and also servicing our own (old) skies. We were very grateful for Quentin’s advice and support and will definitely be returning when back to Alpe D’huez. Highly...
Read moreSo everyone is having the same problem and the excuse is that they are so busy and don't have stock or staff, and covid, covid, covid. However the price is still the same and any complaints to this store are referred on to ski set 'the people you have paid'. They did not have stock of skis and poles, and my daughters snowboard needed re waxing at the Club Med, and my skis needed re edging and thus of course re waxing. You have to pay for Club Med to do this. Staff not interested in my problem. So ski set should dump this group as they are making a good web marketer look bad. Club Med now have their act together in their ski store so any online savings are quite simply, now,...
