Musée archéologique Henri-Prades — Attraction in Montpellier

Great museum with enthusiastic friendly staff. There was a free tour which was excellent although only in French. I wandered about outside alyhough from other reviews I understand that is not allowed. Oops. The Etruscans Gauls Greeks and Romans all inhabited the town so something for everyone. Entry was free anfd I was presented with a book. The recreation of a Gaul village was good together with examples of brick making. The current show about horses is a must see. A case with 5 paleolithic decorative horses is a jaw dropper. When is the last time you saw art over 17000 years old? The rest of the exhibit also good. A small walk from the tram. When you arrive at the gate, there is no place to sit if you arrive early. The staff is aware of this but nothing has been done. Une exposition superbe et très émouvante sur les statues menhir dans ce très beau musée. Nous avons été très touchés par l'exposition en cours sur les statues menhirs, "spécialité" languedocienne semble t'il, il s'agit de "sculptures mégalithiques rudimentaires représentant un personnage en ronde bosse" dixit F. Hermet. L'exposition est très bien faite avec beaucoup d'explications claires et intéressantes. Cela m'a permis de découvrir ce musée archéologique très agréable qui commence par un grand jardin faisant le bonheur des petits comme des grands qui peuvent s'installer sur des bancs pour bien en profiter. Les collections permanentes du musée sont aussi très intéressantes. Elles retracent l'histoire de Lattara (Lattes) de son apogée en tant que port à son déclin. Beaucoup de supports expliquent et éclairent cette histoire dont un petit film très bien fait (mais le son devrait être mis plus fort car quand y a du monde on n'entend plus) et une belle reconstitution d'une maison gauloise. Du musée une très belle promenade, particulièrement en ce moment avec les couleurs d'automne, permet de rejoindre la maison de la nature...
