Even in winter when I visited this park it's still majestic. Considered to be the fifth largest park in Paris in the nineteenth arrondissement. I walked from Gare de L'Est here about ten to fifteen minutes. With its name referring to a bare hilltop due to the soil composition of clay and gypsum that no vegetation grew here. Bearing that in mind this park shows no signs of its tumultuous history with artificial lake, grotto, mature trees (quite a few of the Cedar of Lebanon trees), waterfalls, torrents, cave, mountain pastures and a belvédère. The highlight for me was the belvedere island with the Temple of Sibylle (Temple de la Sibylle). It's made of old gypsum quarry (the belvedere) with the temple perching above it. There're two bridges accessing the belvedere, an iron suspension bridge, designed by Eiffel, and a masonry bridge (known locally as suicide bridge) which takes you a couple of minutes walk up a steep path to reach the temple. This temple reminds me of follies in English gardens and has a spectacular view of the city. And it's an inspiration on the ancient Roman Temple of Vestas. There's playground for kids, restaurants, guignol theatre (puppets theatre) and has free wifi access zones throughout the park. If you're looking for public transport, it's near Metro station Buttes Chaumont, Lumiere and Botzaris and bus lines 7bis 5 & 7. Absolutely worth visiting and exploring. Dogs are allowed to run free inside the park. Even more intriguing is to read up its history, fascinating and interesting...
