A sign at the entrance offers tours in different languages, but only French tours were available the day we visited. A shame because this place has nearly a thousand years of history (including the first female Corsair commander) featuring wars, rebellions and revolutions. Even more amazing is to learn that after the French Revolution the place was abandoned for decades and only restored in the middle of the 19th century. Despite that that it was a weath of amazing historical features and a truly terrifying drop over the very low battlements - vertigo sufferers beware! Read moreWhen you need a french chateau you can count on Josselin. Made from giant hunks of stone fettled to perfection this castle beats all the rest. Wonderful circular and square rooms to explore - along with some of the best giant rhubarb I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
The quality of the french tour guide was out of this world. I didn't understand a single word of what he was saying, but enjoyed listening to his emotional tribute to a piece of local history.
I emplore you visit this castle, take a stroll in the gardens and explore the whole town, each turn there is something new (if you can call medieval new) fun...

There was only a tour in French (which we had no problem with) and as we don't speak French, we just thought we would look inside the castle (i.e. the building not the ground) by ourselves. However, when we tried to enter we were told we were not allowed to enter alone, only as part of a tour. And as we had missed the time slot for our tour, they wouldn't let us in...so the only way for us to see inside the castle would be to sit though a tour in a language we don't understand, which seemed a bit pointless.
