Cave La Balthazar — Attraction in Tournon-sur-Rhône

Went to this store 2x, treated badly in both of them. First time first thing the guy says to me is "we are closing in 5 min". OK, asked for some producers like JL Chave, Clape, Allemand, Jamet. He says he doesn't have them and calls them "Vin de merde",saying he could have 5 bottles of some other producer he likes instead of those I've asked for.

Second time the same thing happened... Wanted to rush me (even though there were more than an hour for the store to close) clapped hands ironically when realised that I had a bag from another wine store with Domaine Jamet in it.

I have been going to Balthazar for the last two years. I can tell you this is a place where your passion for wines is right at home. Azar is knowledgeable and friendly and always has a recommendation of a hidden gem. He has deep roots with the Rhone wine industry and his little shop is right in the heart of it. In Tournon, just across the river from the Hermitage hill, his abode is well worth a stop. Azar doesn't speak much English, but he speaks wine...

Je suis passé il y a 10 ans dans cette cave qui m’a marqué. Je me souviens très bien des 2 magnifiques flacons avec lesquels j’étais reparti. De passage cet été je m’y suis de nouveau arrêté avec confiance: par bonheur l’original propriétaire était toujours là. Souvenirs, discussions passionnantes sur les évolutions, découverte de 2 nouveaux flacons. Je suis de nouveau reparti enchanté : tout conseil est bon à prendre ici!, on voudrait tout goûter tellement ce caviste parle avec goût et passion de ses trouvailles. Il a du nez, de la finesse et surtout l’intelligence de ne pas mettre en avant l’étiquette: une qualité de connaisseur, amateur du magnum de surcroît.
