I am a foreigner who is interested in German history. When I found out that there is a Konrod Adenaur's House Museum, I went to see it the very next day. It took me two hours to get there. And I was very surprised by the way I was treated at the reception. I was there on August 3rd, about 14.30-15.00. I went to the reception, there was a man with glasses, about 50 years old. I asked him to give me a ticket (at that time I did not know that the museum was free), the man showed with his whole look that he was not happy that I came to the museum and said in German "Es gibt kein Eintritt, Sie möchten kein Eintritt". After me there were a lot of local people and he was very polite with everyone, he politely explained to one visitor who also did not know that the museum was free that they first need to register on the website.He did not say anything like that to me, he just rudely made it clear with a look that he was not happy to see me. Perhaps he did not like my Asian face.but I didn't expect to encounter racism in the museum of a man who fought against Nazism all his life. We booked a guided tour and found it to be the best option to get more context and information about the place. The tour lasts approximately one hour.

What we liked: Having a guide gave the visit a personal touch that we really appreciated.

What could be improved: Our group had 20 participants, which felt a bit too large—since most of the tour takes place outdoors, it was sometimes hard to hear the guide. Also, offering audio guides in foreign languages could make the experience more accessible to international visitors.

Welch ein Erlebnis. Zuvor besuchte ich den Bergfriedhof in Rhöndorf und fand die Gräber von Konrad Adenauer und Peter Scholl-Latour. Eine ältere Dame half mir dabei und teilte mir mit, dass man das Wohnhaus von Konrad Adenauer auch besichtigen kann. Man müsse sich zuvor anmelden, ergänzte sie und das tat ich dann auch. Pünktlich zur vollen Stunde war ich da und stellte fest, dass ich zu diesem Zeitpunkt der einzige Interessent war. Ich bot an, zu einem anderen Zeitpunkt an einer Führung teilnehmen zu wollen, denn so viel Engagement konnte ich vom Personal nicht erwarten. Aber es kam anders und ein überaus freundlicher Mann führte mich zum Adenauer Haus und dort musste ich erst einmal nach den vielen Stufen kräftig durchatmen. Zuvor hatte ich schon Schloß Stolzenfels und den Bergfriedhof besucht und das ist für einen Emsländer schon eine sportliche Herausforderung. Aber ich wurde ausreichend entschädigt und dieser Tag wird mir ewig in Erinnerung bleiben. .Adenauers Arbeitspavillon mit unglaublicher Aussicht auf Rhöndorf, die Boccia-Anlage, Adenauer und Charles de Gaulle als Statuen nebeneinanderstehend in dem schon faszinierenden Garten zu sehen haben mich mehr als beeindruckt. Konrad Adenauer starb ausgerechnet an meinem Geburtstag und ich hatte Gelegenheit, sogar einen Blick auf sein Sterbebett zu werfen. Die Gelegenheit einer solchen Führung muß man einfach wahrnehmen und ich möchte mich an dieser Stelle noch einmal herzlich bedanken.
