Odeon Berlin — Attraction in Berlin

Visit this place if

1. you want to watch an English language film that isn't shown elsewhere in Berlin (i.e. Potsdamer Platz)
2. you need German subtitles
3. you like the old-style and familiar athmosphere of the place
4. prefer their open-seating approach
5. want to save a buck or two on tickets

I'll avoid it in the future because

1. the place is completely cramped: people getting tickets, buying coke, waiting for the bathroom, getting out of the one theater are all vying for the same space (your toes).
2. the sound system is barely adequate for a low-key drama, any modern-day action or music film dies on this stage.
3. The seating area is almost level and completely below the screen. WIth any bad luck you have a tall person in front of you obstruct your view and in any case you have no chance to seat yourself in the middle of the screen (not only horizontally but also vertically).
4. there are TWO (yes 2!) bath room stalls for women for the whole theater in a space that is smaller than the bathroom in my apartment.
5. I want a chance to buy a ticket in advance and keep my seat even if I intend to arrive late and skip...

I love this cinema. I live right across the street from it so I like going there often. Aside from it being a historic movie theater (the first in Berlin), it has been so well renovated that you might think it was built just a few years ago. They still keep cute stuff like that there are curtains that open when the movie begins, everything is in red and wall decorations are as beautiful as they probably were when the theater first opened. Most (if not all) of their Holywood screenings are in English with German subtitles. Definitely my favourite...

Small cinema in Berlin-Schoeneberg with couple of rooms that shows contemporary movies.One of the rooms is quite big though - for ca. 300 guests. The seats are not assigned. Sound is good. 1 thing we did not like is the huge queue that formed due to the lack of personnel. One person had to simultaneously to sell tickets and to prepare snacks. As a result people had to wait partly outside of the cinema, since the foyer did not fit...
