Enjoyed a very nice tasting at the winery. Weingut Schloss Lieser charges €20 for the tasting, which is a bargain I think, because you get to taste a lot, including many of their Grosses Gewachs wines, from dry to off-dry and sweet. The tastings are done by the family Haag itself, which is great because you always speak to the people who make the wines themselves. The wines are amazing. Schloss Lieser is know to create very delicate expression of the terroirs in the Middle Mosel, not in the last place because they ferment largely in stainless steel tanks, which keeps the wines very pure. Got to taste 30+ wines starting with the Kabinett then working up to Spatlese, Auselese, and beyond. The most fascinating part was discovering that riesling truly ages well. I would not have thought. But getting to try all the more fresh wines then at the end of the tasting being blown away by some 9, 16, even 21 year old wines. I took home a 2016 (9 years old). I would have bought a case, but that wouldn't fit in my luggage back to San Diego.
