The Kolvenburg, sometimes also spelled Colvenburg, is an ancient moated castle on the upper reaches of the Berkel in the south of the city center of Billerbeck in the district of Coesfeld. The Kolvenburg is a typical former residence of the lower nobility in Münsterland, whose political and economic importance was only local. Throughout its history, it was rebuilt and expanded several times, and the aristocratic owners only used the castle as a residence until the mid-16th century, after which it was only leased.
The current building is in the early Renaissance style and in its present form dates from the 15th and 16th centuries, but its roots lie in a castle tower that was built by the Billerbeck Knights in the 13th century. The system came to the Voet family through the von Colve family, who gave it its name, and from them to the von Münster family. The castle then changed hands several times through marriage before the von Twickel family took ownership in the 19th century. Read moreIch war dort zum Weihnachtsmarkt, im kleinen Museum. Dort war es etwas eng, weil so viele kleine Stände aufgebaut waren. Es gab lauter schöne und mit Liebe zum Detail erstellte Handwerkskunst. Dort fanden wir Gesticktes, Genähtes, Getöpfertes, Gezimmertes und Gemaltes. Es gab auch liebevoll zusammen gestellte Geschenküten und Körbe mit Leckereien aus dem nahe gelegenen Kloster, perfekt als Weihnachtsgeschenk. Besonders gut fanden wir die Parkmöglichkeiten und das kleine Örtchen Billerbeck, zu dessen Ortskern wir in 5 Minuten, von dem Museum aus, waren. Dort gab es ebenfalls einen Weihnachtsmarkt mit sehr vielen Ständen zum Stöbern, naschen und Trinken, anders als auf den meisten Weihnachtsmärkten. Wir hatten einen wunderschönen Nachmittag...
