Veste Coburg now that is a tale I remember. It must've been late October 1066. The HRE led, West defending forces of the Alliance had overcome the majority of the Goblin hordes (at great losses) and had retreated to many castles including this one in order to regain their composure and wait for the support of the combined armies of Doge Domenico Contarini who would arrive from the east having won the 5th battle of Buda. However the Goblins still remaining in Germany and those fleeing the battle of Buda, led by their Sorcerer King, managed to get to Germany first (likely due to Contarini's armies staying in Buda to oversee the taking of the land and sharing our their spoils of war). Seeing the stronghold as a key part of the alliances army, and in an effort of revenge, the Goblin King's reformed armies began besieging the fortress. This siege was brutal however it only lasted 2 weeks before Domenico Contarini and the alliance got to Veste Coburg and fought the goblin army. The battle was less than glorious with the Goblins ending up having to go into another full retreat and splitting away from each other as they did. Those who still followed the Goblin King followed him off continent, taking their small fleet across the world to an unexplored land that would later be known as Canada. Many Goblins however ran away in the confusion and ended up being left behind, stranded all over Europe. The armies of man would soon follow them, launching their own fleet from Santiago...
Read moreIf you're visiting coburg, YOU HAVE TO GO HERE! Stunning place with lots of history. You can see how the building itself has grown and evolved with changing times. Tourists - Explore the link to the British Royal family and ollld secret societies! Lovely gift shop too. I'd recommend taking a packed lunch as the restaurant isn't always open and it's quite a walk from the town centre. There's an expencive vending machine. NOTE this is atop a very tall hill that has stairs if you're walking or you can take a land-train-thing from the town square (I recommend) for a few euros. Because of this and the fact its a historic building, I'd say it isn't accessible to wheelchair users not going by car and that there will be some places inside that you cannot access. Modern areas have made adjustments to improve accessibility however this isn't everywhere. They hold museum/art exhibitions here frequently too. When I went, there was a glass work display that was quite beautiful. Nearby/half way down the hill there's a small natural history museum with taxidermy in a historic building (like wollerton hall) and a beautiful open park with picnic areas, children's play area and large open lawn. They sometimes hold music festivals here too. If you do walk, there are lots of beaches along the way to stop and rest if you have mobility issues like me. At the bottom of the hill you're right...
Read moreOne of the best castles I've ever seen. Listen to me, EVER. And I've seen a lot in different countries. It's a top-notch castle located in a small town, Coburg, on the hill, surrounded by the mesmerizing forest(park). Feels like a movie about King Arthur Lol. The exhibition inside the castle is going to blow your mind. They managed to collect a lot of middle-aged stuff. Each room is a work of art. The castle is huge. On the territory, there's also a door that leads you upstairs to the artillery room with dozens of cannons and stuff. For sure, there's no lack of interesting spots. I highly recommend you give it a try. You won't regret it. The price is JUST 9 euro. You need at least 2 hours, better 3-5, to see the whole building with all rooms and exhibitions, enjoy the yard, etc. Better to see it with your own eyes. I'm gonna add some photos...
