We set our GPS for the cable car parking lot which is the same lot as lake Eibsee. Massive traffic already started at the base and all the lots were slowly being blocked for full capacity.
Parking: We parked at Eibsee for the cable car which is also the same lot for the lake. We got lucky and got the last few spots. It’s all one way and very tight. Lot full at 11:30am.
Make sure you go to the correct parking machine to pay before you leave. If you park at the bottom lot then the machines are at the bottom next to the exit not the upper lot by Eibsee building.
Tickets: 68€ round trip. Keep the ticket with you to scan for ascent and descent. The cable car runs every 30mins and takes 10mins to the top. It fits about 50 people standing. There are benches on each side for elderly. Last descent is 4:45pm.
When you get off the cable car, you’ll follow the passage and pass by the gift store then to the right is a sliding glass door leading you outside. You go up the stairs and from there it’s a 360 platform.
Food: There’s a cafe and outdoor restaurant on the platform on the Bavarian side. A quick kiosk for those sausage sandwiches for 6€. Cash only. There’s an indoor restaurant with a view which was where we went. Choice of chicken schnitzel, curry wart, or meatloaf. We got lucky and saw them put out crispy roasted pork next to the meatloaf which was not on the menu. We got that and potato salad as the side item with gravy on the side. It was delicious. There’s a restaurant on the Austrian side.
Check the hours because they close at random times. Before we left, we got coffee at the Panorama Kaffeebar.
Platform: It was 52F. You get panoramic views of Bavarian and Austrian side. There’s a stamp at each entrance as you cross over.
Peak: Very busy at 1pm. There’s a line and one way. I did not have the right foot ware to climb but I saw regular sneakers and a guy going barefoot. Later at 3:30, no line.
Gift store: There is a store at the main entrance. We always get magnets and they were 3-7€. A small gift shop at the platform cost a bit more and started at 7€ but they have different design. You can use credit card above 10€.
Overall, it was the fastest, quiet, sturdy and comfortable cable car I’ve been on compared to the ones in Austria. Get there before 12 noon for parking. Put aside 2h for the platform, more if you’re climbing the peak. Have cash. Last descent is 4:45pm. It comes...

Read moreVisited Zugspitze on a Saturday during the last week of December. Took a train from Munich to Garmisch P at 8:30am. The train had no upper compartments and it was pretty crowded. The journey was 1.5hour long. Around 200m from Garmisch station, there are ticket counters where you can purchase tickets to go further. Zugspitze is the last point. On the way to Eibsee and a couple other spots. Some of the skiers went on foot to a ski area on the left of the train station which I think was free of cost. We took the right from the train station and bought classic tickets to Zugspitze, costing 62€ per person. It was a single day ticket. You can also buy two day tickets. The tickets can be bought online, and you can skip the long queues. You further have to take a train and cable car to get to the top, included in your ticket. When you get down from the train, there are rental shops to rent ski gears and sledges. There's one for ski equipment and another shop for sledges. They also have clothes which you can rent. The journey from Garmisch to Zugspitze is about 1hour. There were long queues for food, cable cars, trains and on our way back we wanted to visit Eibsee but it was already dark by 4:30pm and the trains from Garmisch to Munich were every one hour. So we decided to skip Eibsee. Zugspitze is beautiful and perfect for skiing just a bit crowded and a...
