We set our GPS for the cable car parking lot which is the same lot as lake Eibsee. Massive traffic already started at the base and all the lots were slowly being blocked for full capacity.

Parking: We parked at Eibsee for the cable car which is also the same lot for the lake. We got lucky and got the last few spots. It’s all one way and very tight. Lot full at 11:30am.

Make sure you go to the correct parking machine to pay before you leave. If you park at the bottom lot then the machines are at the bottom next to the exit not the upper lot by Eibsee building.

Tickets: 68€ round trip. Keep the ticket with you to scan for ascent and descent. The cable car runs every 30mins and takes 10mins to the top. It fits about 50 people standing. There are benches on each side for elderly. Last descent is 4:45pm.

When you get off the cable car, you’ll follow the passage and pass by the gift store then to the right is a sliding glass door leading you outside. You go up the stairs and from there it’s a 360 platform.

Food: There’s a cafe and outdoor restaurant on the platform on the Bavarian side. A quick kiosk for those sausage sandwiches for 6€. Cash only. There’s an indoor restaurant with a view which was where we went. Choice of chicken schnitzel, curry wart, or meatloaf. We got lucky and saw them put out crispy roasted pork next to the meatloaf which was not on the menu. We got that and potato salad as the side item with gravy on the side. It was delicious. There’s a restaurant on the Austrian side.

Check the hours because they close at random times. Before we left, we got coffee at the Panorama Kaffeebar.

Platform: It was 52F. You get panoramic views of Bavarian and Austrian side. There’s a stamp at each entrance as you cross over.

Peak: Very busy at 1pm. There’s a line and one way. I did not have the right foot ware to climb but I saw regular sneakers and a guy going barefoot. Later at 3:30, no line.

Gift store: There is a store at the main entrance. We always get magnets and they were 3-7€. A small gift shop at the platform cost a bit more and started at 7€ but they have different design. You can use credit card above 10€.

Overall, it was the fastest, quiet, sturdy and comfortable cable car I’ve been on compared to the ones in Austria. Get there before 12 noon for parking. Put aside 2h for the platform, more if you’re climbing the peak. Have cash. Last descent is 4:45pm. It comes...

I recently had the privilege of visiting Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak, and I was left awestruck by the breathtaking views and unforgettable experience. Whether you're a nature lover, adventure seeker, or simply looking for a unique experience, Zugspitze has something for everyone.

Scenic Views: The views from the summit of Zugspitze are simply stunning. On a clear day, you can see for miles in every direction, taking in the majestic Alps and picturesque villages below. The panorama platform offers a 360-degree view, allowing you to soak in the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Cable Car Ride: The cable car ride to the summit is an experience in itself. The modern cable cars offer breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, and the ride is surprisingly smooth and comfortable.

Skiing and Snowboarding: Zugspitze is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders. The slopes offer something for every level, from beginner to expert, and the snow conditions are usually excellent.

Hiking and Climbing: For those who prefer to explore on foot, Zugspitze offers a range of hiking trails and climbing routes. The views from the summit are well worth the effort, and the sense of accomplishment is exhilarating.

Infrastructure and Amenities: The infrastructure and amenities on Zugspitze are top-notch. The cable car station, restaurants, and shops are all modern and well-maintained, making for a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Tips and Recommendations: Check the weather forecast before visiting, as the views can be affected by cloud cover. Wear warm clothing, even in summer, as the temperature at the summit can be chilly. Take advantage of the free Wi-Fi and enjoy the views while sharing your experience with friends and family. Consider purchasing a Zugspitze ticket, which includes access to the cable car, ski lifts, and other attractions. Absolutely! Zugspitze is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves nature, adventure, and...

Visited Zugspitze on a Saturday during the last week of December. Took a train from Munich to Garmisch P at 8:30am. The train had no upper compartments and it was pretty crowded. The journey was 1.5hour long. Around 200m from Garmisch station, there are ticket counters where you can purchase tickets to go further. Zugspitze is the last point. On the way to Eibsee and a couple other spots. Some of the skiers went on foot to a ski area on the left of the train station which I think was free of cost. We took the right from the train station and bought classic tickets to Zugspitze, costing 62€ per person. It was a single day ticket. You can also buy two day tickets. The tickets can be bought online, and you can skip the long queues. You further have to take a train and cable car to get to the top, included in your ticket. When you get down from the train, there are rental shops to rent ski gears and sledges. There's one for ski equipment and another shop for sledges. They also have clothes which you can rent. The journey from Garmisch to Zugspitze is about 1hour. There were long queues for food, cable cars, trains and on our way back we wanted to visit Eibsee but it was already dark by 4:30pm and the trains from Garmisch to Munich were every one hour. So we decided to skip Eibsee. Zugspitze is beautiful and perfect for skiing just a bit crowded and a...

Extremely crowded, we chose a Sunny Easter Sunday and probably was the reason for such a crowded venture. Right from wait time for parking till the time you reach on Summit, we had to wait, stand, wait. Summit view was definitely nice however, nothing new if you have been already to other Alps mountains like in Swiss or Austria. Cable ride is definitely better as train ride is boring and takes very long. Most of the time, train remains inside tunnel, you see nothing, we did both and can definitely say that Cable ride is beautiful and also worth taking while ascent and descent. Saves time during travel and also you get the mountains view. If you are Skier then this place is more of fun for you, as you can come down to another level with cable car, where there are options for Skiers and also to Sledge with Kids. Overall, a nice day trip, however it could be very very busy and crowded on Sunny holidays, you have to be just prepared. And regarding restaurant on top, please avoid the Italian food counter that’s just not good. Pizza was bad and Pasta was one of the worst. Canteen styled Restaurant there is terribly expensive. We felt the food we ate was nothing special, and costed us a lot. You might end up paint easily 50€+ for just 2 persons. Bring your own food would be a tip. Probably one time visit place.
