Deutsches Edelsteinmuseum — Attraction in Idar-Oberstein

An absolutely outstanding facility, and definitely should be on the list for anyone visiting this area of Germany. Idar-Oberstein is a wonderfully easy daytrip from anywhere around Frankfurt - a lovely and easy drive (if you can avoid the inevitable staus), and the Edelsteinmuseum as well as the Mineralmuseum are both very well-worth checking out. This museum was one of the most beautiful I have seen. There was a lot to learn about how they carved all the stones and gems and who invented it.

There are really beautiful stones and statues of creatures (as you can see in the pictures).

The employees are very nice and helped you if needed. There are a lot of cool things you can buy in the store!

A good museum with 3 floors of gemstones. The pieces are well described and there are some unique gems too. There are 2 different puzzle tracks for kids. Those make the visit for them more interesting. There is one with finding numbers and one with finding letters. Both were a bit challenging for a 6 year old.
