Katz’scher Garten — Attraction in Vereinbarte Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Gernsbach

An unexpected, beautiful and multi-faceted garden in the middle of Gernsbach, on the bank of the Murg River. I was very pleasantly surprised as I entered the Katz'sche Garten. The grounds are relatively compact; yet replete with a varied array of flowering plants and trees tantalizing the senses. The well thought out, eclectic concept comprises 6 or 7 themes within the enclosed space. As I passed through the wrought iron gates, I was greeted by the formal garden, reminiscent of the grounds at Versailles. Other floral and arboreal highlights include the formal English garden as well as an example of classic Greek architecture, a picturesque view of the banks of the Murg River and the tropical border. On the sunny, warm, spring day of my visit, I was fortunate to meet the man responsible for creating and maintaining today's collection of thriving, luscious greenery. Under his capable and accomplished management, he has integrated artifacts from all over Southern Germany which enhance the unique botanical atmosphere. All in all, the Katz'sche Garten is a delightful warm weather gem, not to be missed in the Northern Black Forest area. EN: A small but fine historical late baroque and sculpture garden on the banks of the Murg river in the town of Gernsbach. Due to the particularly mild climate by the water, the garden owns a Mediterranean flair and extraordinary plants. The Katz Garden was planned and designed by an Italian garden architect at the beginning of the 19th century. The valuable old stock of trees also date from this era, including a bald cypress from Florida and the two magnolia trees, which according to the Baedecker travel guide from the 19th century are among the oldest magnolias in Germany and north of the Alps.

Vom Bahnhof Gernsbach etwa 400 m liegt dieser Sehenswerte Garten der zum Verweilen und Träumen einlädt. Der Katz'sche Garten in Gernsbach ist eine historische kleine Parkanlage an der Murg und ein verzaubertes Kleinod mit einen Hauch von Exotik. Der Grundstein des Gartens wurde Anfang 1800 gelegt 1846 wurde der Garten erweitert und das Teehaus erbaut . 1849 diente er als Gefechtsstellung den preußischen Truppen an der Murg Uferseite bei der Badischen Revolution. 1913 übernahm Otto Casimir Katz mit seiner Gemahlin den Garten . Von dieser Zeit an bis zu ihren Tode 1952 prägte Johanna Katz maßgeblich diesen kleinen sehenswerten Park . Sie stellte zusätzlich gesammelte Steinmetzarbeiten ,teilweise aus der Altstadt von Gernsbach und Schmiedeeiserne Kunstgegenstände aus dem 15 -19 Jahrhundert auf .
