Vitra Design Museum is a must see venue for any design related person. I teach furniture making at Warwickshire College, England and therefore I am biased in this review. I studied furniture design and craftsmanship at university and this should have been a field trip venue whilst we were studying. We paid for the architecture tour which was very a very informative 2 hour tour of the campus, with great snippets of information you would not necessarily gain walking round on your own and access to some parts of the site otherwise of limits. Nichole, our guide spoke perfect English and the tour flew by, my advice if it's sunny, is borrow a Vitra umbrella, that sun does bear down and we were grateful of some shade. The architecture was not the main event for us, we enjoyed looking at buildings by prominent architects but as a furniture maker, the chairs were what we were here to see. There were displays of furniture in Zara Hadid's fire station and the Vitra haus and Eames leather chair assembly was great to see, but the Schaupot (chair museum) 'blew my mind'. All my design history lessons kicked in, amazing chairs after amazing chairs are displayed in racks three high and grouped in decades. Wow, wow and wow. Downstairs there is more to see , with a cabinet of drawers to open with materials and inspiration insights and Eames's office setup as it was in California. There are also windows that allow a glimpse of the vast archive of furniture and lighting which unfortunately are not accessible to tour on a general visit. An amazing 6 hour...

The Vitra Museum and Vitra Campus, situated in Weil am Rhein (German/Swiss border) is a must for all lovers of modern iconic architecture, design and furniture design. If you are in the area, don't miss it! I was lucky to do an architectural tour and can only say "Wow!" A one off collection of iconic buildings by Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry, Tadao Ando, Herzog & de Meuron, Alvaro Siza, Nicholas Grimshaw, SANAA and more masters. The "Campus", as it is known, is not only a unique architectural museum, but also a working home-furnishings/ furniture factory, home to and where the classic Charles Eames "Lounge Chair & Ottoman" is manufactured. In addition to the very efficient staff, the place is extremely well organised and visitor friendly. One can also visit the VitraHaus Cafe/Restaurant, which has a good selection and wide range of regional specialties and light lunch snacks from the region at prices in line with the region average. The VitraHaus also houses a shop for visitors with a wide range and selection of design objects and iconic furnishings, books and publications at reasonable prices - it is well worth a visit. Handicapped/Wheelchair ♿ visitors are catered for. Parking is normally not a problem, with dedicated spaces for the handicapped/wheelchair ♿ visitors

Children are well catered for and guided tours for young children are also available.

Allow yourself plenty of time to enjoy fully - we needed the best part of the whole day!

The surrounding region is also very idyllic and worth...

🚌 By transportation from Switzerland- You will end up at Base bad station to take a bus no. 55. You need to buy a ticket at the green vending machine. Simply type ‚Vitra’ and you will pay either on the way 4.40 or 8.80 (GA, SwissPass / normal price) and on the way back 3.80/7.60. The price was from vandinh machine was different, so maybe my info is not correct. Get the euro coins ready before. Our bus driver on the way didn’t want to sell the ticket in the bus and he left the passengers who couldn’t buy the bus ticket in advance. The bus comes every half an hour and you don’t want to waste of your time. 😣 🚕 Eventually we took a Uber and it was CHF 18.

🏠 Guided tour - Please check out the guided tour online first. We took sn architecture tour in English and it was very informative and interesting. You can visit the places which is not open for the public and the guide tells you interesting stories.

☕️ We went to the two restaurants there. We definitely iked the one at Vitra Schaudepot. The food and drinks are so amazing and the atmosphere is fantastic. However the other restaurant wasn’t great because of a female waitress at the Vitrahaus. She is not accommodating and never smiled.

Vitra 🏡 Haus - Start your tour from the 4th floor and walking down. You will be mesmerized how beautiful they decorated. It’s changing every season. You can order your new...

This is either a 2 or a 5, depending on how you feel about 20th century euro modernism. Expect a dreary walk if you arrive by train from Basil. A large campus, only a portion can be visited. The experience is exceptionally structured and through. Plastics was the theme on our visit, and you will receive a global perspective on the history, uses, advantages and problems related to their uses. Helpers, all dressed in Black, will usher you through. There was no snack bar open at the time, and no drinking fountains, so if you are thirsty on this warm August day be prepared to sit and wait.....to be served by more blacked dressed helpers, who are relaxed at their rate of service. Many visitors found the experience fascinating; a great number taking photos of the furniture and objects so exactly curated. Since it was about the only museum open on Monday, I found it worth my time too. Our hotel provided half price passes. Virtra also manufactures classic furniture, available for sale and on display. Ironically, this furniture was designed for the masses, but now is a costly prestige item. And that sums up the experience of the Vitra Design Museum!
