The Castalian spring was the sacred source of Delphi, and its water played an important role in the cult and procedure of the temple and of the oracle. This is where Pythia, the priests and the temple staff washed, and where the water used to clean the temple came from. The theopropoi - those wishing to consult the oracle - were also obliged to wash here in order to purify themselves.

The spring isn't t exactly there. It is closer to the mountain. Fallen rocks blogged the way to them. Now, on the left side, when you walk to the delphi entrance, you can fuel your bottle with the holy cold undead water, redirected from the springs.

Στην μαγευτική πόλη των Δελφών,δίπλα στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο και κάτω απο τις Φαιδριάδες πέτρες και δίπλα στον ναό του Απόλλωνα βρίσκεται η Κασταλία πηγή.Μεγάλα πλατάνια και ένα επιβλητικό τοπίο δημιουργούν στον επισκέπτη μια αίσθηση μυσταγωγίας και ευτυχίας,φανταζόμενος την ιέρεια του ναού χιλιάδες χρόνια πρίν να έρχεται στον χώρο αυτό για να εξαγνιστεί και να καθαριστεί,ώστε να μπεί αργότερα στο άδυτο του ναού και με τις ευλογίες του θεού,να μπορέσει να δώσει τον χρησμό.Αξίζει φυσικά η επίσκεψη στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο,το μουσείο,το θέατρο καθώς και στον χώρο του περίφημου θόλου.Η πόλη των Δελφών επίσης καταπληκτική με πληθώρα και ποικιλία μαγαζιών προσφέρει στον επισκέπτη στιγμές χαλάρωσης και ξεκούρασης,μόλις 2 ώρες απο την Αθήνα!!!

There are two ancient fountains, the second is blocked off due to rock slides but the original ancient bath/fountain is visible. There's also a little spot to drink from that is supplied by the springs that supplied the ancient fountain(s).

ΕΠΙΘΥΜΊΑ Κ ΕΥΧΉ ΕΊΘΕ ΝΑ ΠΡΑΓΜΑΤΟΠΟΙΗΘΕΙ !! Η Κασταλία αποτελούσε την ιερή πηγή των Δελφών και το νερό της διαδραμάτιζε σημαντικό ρόλο στη λατρεία και στη λειτουργία του ιερού και του μαντείου. Εκεί πλενόταν η Πυθία, οι ιερείς και το προσωπικό του ναού, ενώ με το νερό της καθάριζαν και το ναό του Απόλλωνα. Εκεί έπρεπε υποχρεωτικά να πλυθούν και οι θεοπρόποι, δηλαδή όσοι θα ζητούσαν χρησμό, προκειμένου να εξαγνισθούν. Η Κασταλία πηγή βρίσκεται στη χαράδρα των Φαιδριάδων, στα ριζά του βράχου που σήμερα ονομάζεται Φλεμπούκος και στην αρχαιότητα λεγόταν Υάμπεια. Η πρώτη κρήνη διαμορφώθηκε γύρω στο 600-590 π.Χ. κοντά στον αρχαίο δρόμο και είναι αυτή που βλέπουμε σήμερα δίπλα στο σύγχρονο δημόσιο δρόμο.
