We knew we were eating early for Greek time, but after a morning in Athens and a beautiful drive (despite on and off downpours and sunshine), we were hungry! Read other reviews, and even with a 10 percent discount offered by our hotel for another restaurant, we liked the pictures we saw of quaint two top tables on a balcony. (And unlike another restaurant close by, the seating and view were not the only pictures; the food looked good too!) The restaurant was up a set of steps, or down if you come the other way. Town wasn’t that busy with tour groups but I can imagine the location is a little quieter than right off the main roads. We were the only ones there and the service made us feel like we rented the place out for just us. The gentlemen were so nice and made us feel right at home Oh, and most important, of course, the food and house red was great! I had the lamb chops, which were tender and nicely seasoned. Their was a good mix of meat and just enough fat for that flavor we all like when eating off the bone. My partner had the stuffed tomatoes; “they were yummy!” Seasoned well, no meat, for the vegetarians out there. And the potatoes on the side were full of flavor and had a really good red sauce. Unfortunately, we weren’t dining with our phones, so no pics, but the other reviews are accurate. Lastly, we opted for the yogurt dessert, which I’m not usually a big fan of yogurt or apricots, but this was some homemade local cultured real stuff, and some bites tasted like a...
Read moreDuring our visit to Delphi, we had the pleasure of dining at Taverna Dion, a family-run establishment that truly embodies Greek hospitality and culinary excellence. This charming place offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
One of the standout dishes we enjoyed was the Dion Salad. This fresh and flavorful salad perfectly captured the essence of Mediterranean cuisine, combining crisp vegetables with local cheeses and a delightful dressing. It was a refreshing start to our meal and set the tone for the culinary delights that followed.
The lamb chops were another highlight of our dining experience. Grilled to perfection, the tender and succulent meat was seasoned with a blend of herbs that enhanced its natural flavors. Accompanied by homemade potato chips, this dish was a testament to the taverna’s commitment to quality and tradition.
The service at Taverna Dion was exceptional. The staff was attentive, friendly, and eager to share insights about the menu and the origins of their dishes. Their passion for their craft was evident, and it added a personal touch to our dining experience.
In addition to the outstanding food and service, the taverna’s ambiance is enhanced by its rustic decor and the option to dine outdoors, allowing guests to enjoy the picturesque surroundings of Delphi. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, Taverna Dion offers an authentic Greek dining experience that...
Read moreSimple but perfectly executed: fabulous dishes! They are particularly known for grilled dishes, but, really, they are a full package. We arrived late in Delphi, and were advised by a local to check out Taverna Dion if we liked Greek food.
We did not order a lot: grilled vegetables, moussaka (we had been told theirs was amazing), grilled lamb chops. For appetizers, we were given an exquisite grilled eggplant dip with a lovely charred taste, with garlic, lemon, chives, peppers and who knows what else, along with simple yoghurt and olive oil: a perfect starter.
The grilled vegetables were slightly marinated and quite refreshing. The moussaka was rich and splendid, with thick layers of perfectly seasoned vegetables and noodle, topped by a thin layer of delicate bechamel. The lamb chops were charred just right, so perfect that my wife, who hates fat, actually ate them fat and all...
We had not ordered any desert but the charming owner brought us an extraordinary desert of yogurt with candied orange and lemon rind, with honey and finely cut strawberries: what a magnificent combination this was!
Both my wife and I felt that this simple meal was the best we had eaten in Greece: simple, Greek...
