The thermal springs flow from further upstream and at some point in the past a business operated here. They diverted the river creating waterfalls and installed some concrete barriers creating a pool. I suspect locals have tied ropes across the river to permit walking across the slippery stone more stable. Sadly the business is now long gone, leaving a derelict building and rusting fences behind, but the pool and waterfalls remain. It was clear the spot is a favourite of locals as well as travellers as we encountered many of both while we basked in the hot waters. The entire experience was wonderful. Don’t be put off by comments about refugees, there is an accommodation building nearby, they’ve simply had the good fortune to be placed near the springs and also make use of them. However, if you aren’t comfortable here then try either upstream or downstream a short walk. There are many other places to bathe in the marvellously hot water, enough to find somewhere to bathe alone if that’s your preference.

Natural hot spring. It's free. Kept clean by a gentleman called Mikos who sells Greek goods (Honey, Jams, herbs etc.) Near the gate. Mikos also installed ropes for yor safety, he even keeps first aid material for you! So, why not reward the good guy with a tip? I did. I am not Greek. I have no interest in Mikos or his business. Just spreading a good word Tip: Don't stay more than 15 minutes in that hot water because it can harm you. The odour coming out with the water is completely natural. Enjoy! Keep clean.

Some people just can't help it and want to get into any running water they find in the wild. At the natural thermal pool at Thermopylae you can do it even in the cold winter months. The water are fantastically warm and welcoming, the odor is of course not so inviting, but you can get used to it. The only problem is that there is no place to take a shower afterwards. But maybe the fact that this place is so neglected is also what makes it so wild and scarcely visited.

Man, this thermal pool is tucked away in a slice of Greek paradise. The surroundings are lush with natural beauty, making you feel like you've just stepped into some ancient myth.

The water here is like liquid gold, full of minerals that make your skin feel like a million bucks. It's clear and inviting, but there's always this slight worry about how often they clean it up.

Don't expect much in the way of fancy amenities here. I didn't see any changing rooms or showers nearby, so you might want to bring your own towel and maybe a change of clothes.

It's a bit of a gamble. On some days, it's just you and the soothing sounds of nature; on others, it feels like half of Greece decided to take a dip here too.

Soaking in this pool feels like you're getting a hug from Mother Earth herself. The warmth of the water seeps into your bones, but remember, the comfort can swing with the weather or how busy it gets. It's definitely one of those spots where you can lose track of time, just floating in your own little world. Me and my wife were traveling from Thessaloniki to Athenes and desided to stop for anight in Kamena Vourla cause I really wanten to visit the Memorial site for Leonidas and the Battle of Thermopylae. So why not to go and visit the hot springs that gave the name to the site? We managed to get ther after sunset after taking a shortcut and getting stopped by a guard - appearantly there is a refugees camp from Siria really near the springs right now. When we finally got to the springs there was a small group of local people who were listening to trance music. We decided to leave and to come the next morning since we were staying over night near by. Got there аt 7am the next morning, just after the sunrise the camp was still a sleep and we were the only people at the site, the water was really nice and warm even in early November- it was a perfect experience, was totally worth the...
