The sea is beautiful, crispy and clean. Arriving at the beach we went to nice luxury sunbeds, which are on the left side of the bay. That they cost 20 Euro,NP, they supply a beach towel + small bottle of water. The boy asked if we pay now or later. We said later. After 2 hrs a lady asked to be paid. She only accepted cash and as I pay with a card I needed to walk quite a distance in 38C to the tavern. I asked if I could pay when leaving in 30 min as the parking was next to the tavern and got the rude reply ; I am not going to pay out of my pocket if you don't pay, which I found quite insulting, besides that it is a quite beach with only few umbrellas and only 1 small road to leave. I told her that the water from the shower was brown and filthy, unfit for human use, to which she replied that I should contact the municipality on that and in such a rude way like just pay and shut up. Final remark the umbrellas are too small for these (large) sunbeds. There are lot of other beaches were you get treated professionally. I spoke Greek as my...
Schinaria Beach, also known as Skinaria Beach, is located on the south coast. When it's very windy in the north and red flags prohibit swimming, people set their sights on a location on the Libyan Sea. There are several hidden, uncrowded beaches, mostly frequented by locals. One example is Triopetra Beach, not far from Skinaria. We start in Kavros, at the Vantaris Luxury Beach Resort Hotel. We take the "interstate," Vorios Odikos Axonas Kritis EO75, to Rethymno and turn right onto the Rethimou-Agias Galinis EO. We stay on the well-maintained road until we reach the town of Pale, where we turn towards Plakias/Prevelli. The road is called Koxaron-Moni Prevellis. We make a stop while driving through the Kourtaliotiko Gorge. There is parking space on the large platform. The wind swirls down the mountain slopes, so caution is advised. In the next village, Lefkogia, the sign for Skinaria Beach is so tiny that it's easy to miss. After the supermarket, turn left and follow the very narrow road to the bay. Expect oncoming traffic. Despite the relatively small beach, both parking lots are full. The Schinaria Bay Hotel is also located there, with food and drinks served under the leaf roofs on the right. There are plenty of loungers with cushions and umbrellas available, but arriving early is advisable. The fee for two loungers plus Wi-Fi and two bottles of water is very expensive at €25. The water is clear and pleasantly cool, and divers...
Read moreA beautiful secluded beach with coarse sand, crystal clear water, good swimming, a choice of umbrella/sunbeds, or free public beach. It's about 4km from Stellios village on a sealed but windy road. Parking is available. Facing the sea towards the west, the cheapest umbrella and sun beds were €8, but the most expensive at €25 was very comfortable and comes with free water, wifi, and table service. Swimming is beautiful, bring a mask and snorkel. We ate at the Garden Cafe (seperate review) under shade. The fresh daily menu was exellent, and has a bar. Takes cards or cash (preferred they said). If you want to do your own thing there is ample space to enjoy this beautiful beach. It's protected from the N, S, and E, so expect very calm water unless there is a westerly breeze. We thought it was the best swimming experience on this trip to Greece and would definitely...
