FANTASTIC! Dont listen to the bad reviews! (I will explain why later) My girlfriend and I were on our way to the cave of Zeus but stopped because we were delighted by the sight of a museum at the top of the mountain. When we got out of the car we admired the view and didnt whip out our phone to take a picture the first thing we do. I mean why would you even do that? Dont you want to take a moment to really feel the ambiance and take in the view. A crow flew before us in the sky and that really made us understand how incredibly high up we where which was really cool. The man managing did not harass us as other reviews said. He was nothing but pleasant. My girlfriend was intriuged by the fun Lucy ape thing in the entrance of the museum and after we took a look in the shop (its like most souvenir shops in crete not the highlight of the visit) we asked for tickets. We got a fun little phampflette and a sign up front informed us that we would not forget what we see here... (THIS IS NOT A TRADITIONAL MUSEUM) The signs where right! We had a great time! The signs are written with passion and has character to it. It really adds to the whole experience. You have to see it for what it is, yes its not as polished as for example the archeological museum in Heraklion, but honestly at the archeological musuem you get tired of seeing pot after pot after pot. How many clay pots does one museum need to display? At the Homo sapien museum this is NOT the case, everywhere you turn there is something new and intriuging to look at. Everything from a horse statue to different types of wheels to the different signs. Its very different but you can feel that there is much love behind it and I respect that. The roof has a great view of the valley and we were where happy we got to experience this unorthodox gem of a museum. If you are the type of tourist that wants a Louvren type of museum this place may not be for you. But hey, you need to live a little. But I guess some people wanna have it...

Driving around on the Lassithi plateau came across this parking lot that apparently belongs to some ‘museum’. We drove into the parking lot just to be able to take some pictures of the nice though fake windmills there and the surroundings. However before even taking one picture we were immediately approached by the agressive, cursing and overall very rude owner of the place. Shouting that taking pictures was not allowed and we are ‘stealing’ by wanting to make pictures of the windmills outside without visiting the actual ‘museum’. Mind you that we had just turned into the parking lot. According to the many other reviews this is what he does and will no doubt accuse us of trespassing and stealing just because he wants to take money from you. According to reviews the ‘museum’ itself is the very definition of a tourist trap… So if anyone is ‘stealing’ it is him by taking money from unsuspecting tourists for apparently something so very low level, historically incorrect and tiny. Besides the pictures of the windmills outside are all over the internet including his own facebook page, LOL, so stealing?? Considering the many negative reviews the whole world is at fault but him of course. Anyway I strongly advise you to stay away from this aggresive type and money wolf. Just drive a kilometer futher down the road and you have an actual historic site with windmills and a nice tavern which are much more worth it. I would like to thanki him though. We had a good laugh afterwards...

The owner or whoever works there is a proper rotten apple in greek culture ! We were initially trying to get to Korfi mountain and navigation took us through this village. As soon as we drove in man came running saying “this parking is just for visitors, will you buy something or go in museum???” I asked about the road up the mountain, he said “no no road there, you need to walk one hour, but if you park here you need to buy something it’s just for visitors”. Okay we bought water. We soon stopped another local driving down from the mountain who said road is great to go there by car, which we did. However on our way back we met other hikers who been fooled by that selfish “business” man into buying stuff and walking additional 1km up the mountain road ..

Answer to owners response: obnoxious tone was yours as you run towards us right away with intention to get money, without even saying hello or asking if we need anything. So you have set the tone for us to follow i’m affraid. And no we didn’t leave the car, as i have mentioned with another local’s guidance we were able to drive closer to hiking place. I would suggest you refrain from labeling people by being foreigners, very rude and...

If you turn into this carpark for the fantastic views you will be accosted by the owner who expects you to go into his family museum as the carpark is only for customers. At only 4€ each I’m sure it’s worth it for the experience. He and his father built many of the exhibits like the church, caves and tunnels and he’s justifiably very proud of it all. Plus, yes, the views down to the coast are amazing. The cafe didn’t appear to be open which is a pity.

Warning this is not a museum, it's a tongue in cheek look at the evolution of man. The owner has put a lot of effort into the buildings and if you enter with sense of humour it's a bit of fun. You can get up close to the windmills and get some great photos from the roof terrace. We paid €4 to get in and about €6 for a coffee and soft drink. The cafe trace was wonderful to sit and enjoy the stunning views
