We were just going to get a drink after visiting the Roza gorge viewing platform (reccomend). Next door was really busy, it was a Sunday afternoon and locals were eating en masse, so came here instead. The chap on the next table said it was the best wood fire cooking in the area so forced ourselves to have some garlic bread, oven feta, stuffed peppers and Pork and potatoes for my son. Everything was well cooked, the pork was a 10 out of 10 from my son. The waiter brought out toasted bread with the meal, gave us some delicious cakes to finish and offered Raiki. The meal only cost 23 euro (sure they must have forgotten the drinks). We were entertained by a local playing the organ, dancing, and a...

Let me tell you a secret. The two tavernas in Kera, Nikis and Elias, are both superb. You literally cannot go wrong with either. They both have unreal views of the mountains from the back of the taverna, they both excel at roasting lamb and pork in wood burning brick ovens, and they both have cheerful attentive staff that really make each meal flow seamlessly like a good book. And each one is priced about half as expensive as what you would pay in Heraklion. In fact, for less than the price of a quarter pounder with cheese in the USA, you can get an order of lamb and potatoes slow roasted in a brick...

We actually wanted to stop at the taverna next to this one, but ended up here. However the food was very delicious with reasonable prices! If you’re on the way to the Zeuss cave or on the way back it’s definitely worth stopping here. Authentic food and best mousaka I’ve ever had. The waiter was a little slow but he made sure everything is to our pleasant. I loved the food and the homemade red wine! I recommend the dolmades (rice in vineleafes) for starters, too! They gave us free bread, which I believe we paid as a 2€ fee/coperto in the end. But you could ask for as much bread you wanted. It was still fine

Really enjoyed this stewed goat and real potato fries. Old school, home cooked. The stuffed cabbage leaves were also delicious! The food we ordered here was very good. Note that because we visited in Sept/Covid just after Greece opened up so we don't order from the menu, we always ask the staff what is fresh and available instead of choosing something from the menu. So far this technique has not failed us!
