This was the best zoo trip me and my wife have ever been! At first I was a little scary what's going on, because the parking in front of Zoo was nearly empty, no line at the entrance, no people at all. Every Zoo I was in before there were many people. Here I felt like I have private Zoo trip. At first I met one people or two once in every 5 minutes. Later there was just a little more of them. I even asked at the entrance where are all the people? Lady answered with big smile that she don't know! The animals were active, cheerful and relaxed. You can see they are happy. The zookeepers are riding around every once in a while and check for their wellbeing. Some of them you can just go in their place of living and walk among them. Very nice experience! Some you can touch, mostly even when they are near you it's forbidden. The Lemur Forest was of course the best experience of all in that Zoo! They are walking around you, sometimes jump on your neck, and always are curious if you have something in your hand (looking for food all the time :-D) Someone said he needed 3 hours to see all the Zoo. For us, we were there 6 hours and didn't get enough! Had to go cause it was our last evening in Athens before flight and wanted to see old town once again. If not that, we would be surely there till the closing hours! I've never been in a place like that, where you can eat THAT good and THAT cheap! In every places like that you pay a lot of money and got small portions. Here you have great quality meal in lowest price. For two souvlaki chicken wrap and french fries we paid 10 euro. And we didn't know there are french fries already inside wrap so we ordered too much! PS: We went to the Zoo from Athens - took metro M3 till Nomismatokopio station, went out of subway and took the bus number 305. We left at Αγ. Νικολαος stop and Google maps guided us a walk through some kind of country road between fields and trees. Yes, don't worry this is a correct way, you will arrive at Zoo by it :-)
We went there in May at Wednesday, that's why probably there weren't so many people. Nevertheless I'll remember that Zoo and it's habitants for years, hopefully for life!

Read moreAs someone who loves birds, and has worked with birds in zoos in the uk, i absolutely loved the variety of species they have here. If you are a bird lover, it really is a must visit. Some of the enclosures could do with a bit of work and id add a few more perches and brows for some of them, but overall though the enclosure were good. Really loved the big mixed species walk throughs, birds of africa, birds of america, birds of asia. Really great seeing some species that arent that common in captivity. Now it depends on how you feel about keeping dolphins in captivity, i personally don't love it as its so difficult to keep them to high welfare standards. The dolphin enclosure was closed when we went to visit, so I can't judge it. The zoo does some really interesting conservation work, i read about the griffon vultures, all of them have been rescued after being posioned or shot. And they also take in alot of tortoises that are ex-pets. Overall i had a great time at the zoo, there is a cafe in the center that is really well priced and has a few option, entry to the zoo was €18 for an adult, we were there for just over 3 hours and definitely would have been there longer if it hadnt started raining. Its also right next to a shopping outlet which is easy to get public transport...
