I would normally rate this place with a 5 star, but I cannot because of the rudest guardians managing the car access (barrier) to the bar near the Giola pool. This was my worst experience in Greece in 30 years of visiting Greece 😢
I descended with my kids using the pedestrian path, saw the beautiful Giola pool, but on return, my youngest son could not climb back because he was just exhausted and the heat was high.
I saw cars descending down to the pool, went up to the parking to take the car, and when I wanted to pay for the car entry to drive down to the bar near the pool and retrieve my son and my daughter the two people at the barrier were very rude, so I didn't have the chance to explain that I have medical issues and cannot climb back with my son, because they said this is a private place and they do what they want there.
I went back on the pedestrian way, retrieved my kids, barely climbed back with my kids and said to the people at the car entry, politely, that it is a shame to treat a tourist like this. They just sweared me and shown me obscene signs before saying anything else.
I will never visit this place again to get humiliated for...
Read moreWe had seen all the rave reviews about Giola, often called the #1 natural attraction on Thasos, so of course, we decided to check it out ourselves. Honestly? For us, it was one of the biggest letdowns of the island.
The natural pool itself is interesting, sure—but the overcrowding, the trash left behind by visitors, and the general chaos took away any charm it might have had. No words for the mess people leave in such a beautiful place.
To get there, you have to park before the main entrance (parking is €3 for 2 hours), and then walk down a rocky, dusty path in the heat. We went in July, with temperatures hitting around 36°C, and the sun showed no mercy—bring water, good shoes, and patience.
If you’re into super popular, Instagram-famous spots, maybe it’s worth a quick stop. But for us, Giola felt overhyped and underwhelming. Definitely not the hidden paradise some make it out to be.
One of the weakest attractions we visited on Thasos,...

We simply expected something else after seeing all the pictures and reading all the reviews. The place is polluted with trash, the water is dirty and smells. It's a well advertised attraction and therefore natural destination for all tourists on the island - so don't be surprised you get more people than in the middle of the main city square.
The "road" or "path" there is nowhere close to "maintained", you have to walk 300 metres down to the sea level and I would not recommend to go there with small kids unless you can carry them down and up.
When you finally get there and find the place the way we found it, you can still swim in the open sea, outside the hole's smelly odour, but hey - there's so many and much more beautiful places, with less people, that you can reach with no thirsty effort.
Some time ago, this place was probably a paradise. It is a...
