Arctic Luxury Supposed to be the northernmost hotel in the world to earn a 4-star Rating. Almost all the rooms come with Breathtaking views of the Icebergs and the bay - which get even more visually arresting around sunset. And this hotel has also brought Glamping to one of the World's final frontiers with their Igloo ‘Cabins which are perched on top of the cliffs, with ringside view of the colossal icebergs as they drift by daily against the backdrop of super seductive sunsets! Staying at this place gave us a sensational feeling of being so close to quiet and unspoilt nature, while not having to compromise on modern creature comforts. LOCATION: Dramatically located in a rocky point, overlooking Disko Bay with Disko Island(which has its own personal icecap), in the distance, the positioning of the hotel is picture-perfect. DINE + DRINK: The hotel is also home to Restaurant Ulo that was recently named “the world’s wildest kitchen” by Danish magazine Gastro, earning the title with dishes like reindeer, dried musk-ox meat, smoked Greenland halibut, and other fresh seafood. While I didn’t go crazy about the food, I did get high on the million-dollar views from the restaurant as well as the lovely terrace outdoor. Breakfast was very basic but much better than what we got in Hotel Icefiord ROOM: We stayed in 501 which was a JUNIOR SUITE, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Stunning views of the Town and Icebergs floating along DISKO bay ; SIZE: Very spacious room; AIR-CON: No Air-Con, and the room was cool enough; BED: The same problem we have been facing in all Nordic hotels- Super small beds and 2 separate beds that made it very difficult to sleep as a couple and kept waking up multiple times fearing the separation of the beds and falling down! This was a big downside; BATHROOM: Wonderful Stand in shower, with a super powerful showerhead that was heavenly!; TOILETRIES: Lovely SPA quality Cosmetics FACILITIES: No Swimming pool, but shockingly they have a compact gym on site. This was a huge surprise, as I dint expect any kind of fitness studio in a place like Greenland! ANd better yet, the machines were very different from the cliched Life Fitness, Technogym etc. They were by a brand called HOIST and the mechanisms of the machines were quite different and effective for a good workout. No Free weights though, which i didnt mind SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel comfortable and well taken care of. HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free MEDIUM speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. Small Plasma TV screen dishing out dozens of channels spanning sports, news, music, But predominantly in Danish!

Spent 5 nights here - a dream finally come true! We had one of the Umiaq rooms which was spacious, comfortable, warm, with everything you need and an incredible view to top it. Breakfast was a good spread although it did get very busy sometimes. We ate dinner twice - the food was of high quality and the halibut delicious. On one night there was a very long wait for the maincourse. Definitely book a table if you want to eat there. The location out of town up the hill means you have a great view. The shuttle bus runs once an hour during the day, the walk back from the centre is about 20 minutes. Wifi worked very well and the shop at reception had a nice selection of goods. The only downside was the erratic room cleaning which didn't improve despite mentioning it at reception. The bed was made only once during the whole stay, some days only the bins were emptied and if you are in the room when housekeeping comes then you have to let them in or they don't return. All in all though a very pleasant hotel to stay at and one I would return to!

I stayed at this hotel as part of a photographic group of 16 people in Ilulissat, Greenland. |Upon arrival and check-in--(which I understood was 3 pm and I was early) I was greeted by a relatively unfriendly individual,( I believe his name was Axel), who rudely told me it was impossible to check in any earlier than our allotted time. I was okay with that but not with his lack of hospitality skills. I had the unfortunate displeasure of dealing with him on a few more occasions during my 5-day stay and at no time did his skills show any signs of improvement with me or any other guest I witnessed him speaking "down to." ||I was provided a standard room (200 wing) which had a nice view of the water, icebergs, and boats. The room had two single beds moved together to provide a queen. There was a desk and chair. The room was small but adequate for one person, and probably a bit tight for two. The bathroom was also small but again adequate and clean. Very limited soap, body gel, and shampoo. If you do stay here I would suggest bringing your supplies if you have personal preferences for the items you use. The towels were okay but not soft and thick. One window in the room was able to be opened. Dark-out curtains were provided for our 24 hours of daylight. ||Breakfast offerings included soft/hard-boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, fruit, cereal, yogurt, fresh juices, freshly baked sweets and bread, and good Greenlandic coffee. Items were regularly refreshed.|| Lunch and Dinners at the hotel were very good with an assortment of items to choose from. One night there was a wonderful buffet that included native specialties: muskox, reindeer, whale, seal, halibut--fresh and smoked, king crab legs, Greenlandic shrimp, assorted salads, fresh cooked whole grain breads, fresh baked desserts. the meal was truly a beautiful and delicious buffet of native foods.||There are a few employees of this hotel who really stood out and bent over backward to assist in making this hotel a pleasure to stay in.|I needed to spend one more evening here before my departure. ( I did have a reservation at another hotel but staying would save me from packing and unpacking to move). Axel repeatedly told me that obtaining a room for the night was impossible as they were fully sold out--- however, I knew there were flight cancellations due to the weather and therefore would have room availability. After being told one more time, "not possible" I went to the desk later to recheck. There was a gentleman named Kasper who managed to find a room not only for myself but others who were traveling with me. He was a king among kings. Not only did he exemplify true hospitality skills, but he was also a gentleman. He was patient and polite with everyone. He found each of our rooms by simply taking the time to look for them, something Axel didn't bother to do. Kasper was a lifesaver and should be acknowledged for his wonderful skills and personality.|4 other employees deserve kudos as well: Jacob, Abigael, and Natalie from the dining room staff, and Clara at the front desk. I'm certain there are others, but I did not get their names. The cleaning staff for my part of the hall were also very nice and accommodating.||Overall, this was a very nice hotel and I would not hesitate to stay here. However, next time I would request an upgrade to one of their glass rooms. These were designed for Borealis viewing, however still beautiful even if not at the correct time of the year. Book well in advance as these rooms are...

I had a very mixed experience at hotel arctic so I’ll go through the good and bad: Good: The rooms were big and clean - I stayed in a junior suite and a great view. Breakfast was delicious Restaurant was good to eat at (though pricey) Shuttle from airport was convenient 5 the evening staff and everyone except the people mentioned below were nice and friendly

In between: Hotel is about a mile from center of town. It’s definitely walkable and I did that everyday. I love walking so it was no problem- but if you don’t like walking there is shuttle available

Bad: The front desk woman during the week was truly awful. She was impossible to engage with- when I arrived early I asked if I could drop my bags and then walk into town to pass time until check in- she just waved me off. So I sat in lobby for a few hours. At check in time she said my room was not ready even though it should have been. When she finally got me a key I asked how to get to room and she just pointed in no particular direction. I got lost trying to find it as it was up the stairs and in another building (a very lovely cleaning woman helped me).

I was not the only person who complained about her as I interacted with several other guests who stated that she gave them misinformation and couldn’t be bothered to help.

I cancelled my dinner reservation at restaurant which required payment up front. I cancelled within the time required but got conflicting information via email. One email asked me to go to front desk to get refund. I went to front desk (and of course the same woman was there). I showed her the email and she said to go to booking manager and when I asked where it was she pointed down a hallway. Shockingly it wasn’t there. I stopped at restaurant and asked them - and the lovely lady there brought me back to front desk. Then she helped get booking manager who was behind front desk- which is where I came earlier . Then he processed refund. Then I get a call saying that they processed it twice so I had to come back and run my card again or give them my credit card info in email. I was definitely not going to do that so I came back down. Unfortunately the same woman was there but so was booking manager. I explained that no refund was on my card yet so I was hesitant to be charged again when I didn’t have one refund let alone two. So he said they would just put a hold and then we could review the next day to ensure I wasn’t getting charged twice. That same woman was supposed to put a hold- but guess what- she charged the card for full amount . I strongly recommend that they find someone to replace her

I booked hotel through a third party website for miles- and when I never received the miles I contacted the website. They contacted the hotel who said (and I’m certain it was the same woman but I don’t have proof) I checked in and out on June 24 when I actually checked in June 21 and checked out June 25. Now I’m in a dispute over this. It’s honestly an incredibly disorganized hotel and lacking for a 4 star hotel.

They don’t have blackout curtains- which can really be hard for 24 hours of sunshine - so bring...
