Tz‘ikin is located uphill in the small town Tzununa. From the hostel you have a beautiful view over Lake Atitlan. If you’re looking for a remote quiet yet basic place, this is the perfect spot. Around the hostel there is not much to do, but there are a few nice restaurants, mini markets and places that offer different kind of workshops. Nevertheless, there are a few points of feedback to keep in mind when coming to Tz‘ikin. The whole hostel is made from wood by hand which is beautiful but also leads to several spiders and scorpions in your room. Furthermore, no one really knew that we were coming and were missing a welcoming introduction on arrival to get information about where to find everything, rules, etc. we had to figure things out ourselves by asking other guest that also only had vague answers. The local staff was very friendly, however the owners gave us the feeling that we were more of a burden and not motivated to provide a nice experience for their guests. A small welcoming booklet with all the information/rules about the hostel and the area would have...
Read moreI spent a few weeks living at Gaia Temple across the street from Granja Tz'ikin and spent almost every morning working online at the farm. The view from this spot is so lovely and the people are incredibly kind. The menu offers many plates with vegan alternatives/substitutes. My favorite part about the farm is attending their open mic/pizza nights every Friday. On Friday nights, the place is packed with kind people, most of whom are musicians or share a love for music. My friends and I love to mingle with this crowd, spend the night dancing, and occasionally steal the mic for a song or two. There are also lots of friendly dogs running around and the farm's goats live right under the restaurant so you can head down and visit them as well. Really a wonderful place worth the visit when traveling...
Read moreDissapointing for vegans. Nice chill atmosphere with lots of plants and a view of the lake. However, we were really disappointed with the food. The falafel wrap was really dry and bland, it lacked flavour and texture. The embodiment bowl was equally disappointing, not much flavour but if you're after a healthy bland food then you might like it. Also the vegan and vegetarian items in the menu were mislabelled with most of the vegetarian items being labeled as vegan. The service was good until there was a staff change, the second person being a bit rude and not very welcoming, playing loud rock music which made us decide to leave. Unfortunately we would not be...
