I knew I'd made the right decision as soon as we were handed the rules for the ride. It was a mixture of humor (which is a recurrent thing here) and reassurance for ATV newbies like myself. Everyone here is so supportive and allows for your nervousness but also nudges you towards the good time if you're a bit hesitant. But you're NEVER forced. That's what I thought was awesome. One of the guides even asked if I was comfortable to continue or if I wanted to continue as a passenger. I continued but it meant so much to know she recognized my unease. I felt really taken care of during the ride. The group you're with would make a difference as well. And my group was amazing. It really was everyone looking out for everyone else. Even when things went wrong, I still had confidence we'd be OK. A guy flipped his ATV, then on our way back we ran into a lot of snow and it blocked our path so we had to divert and go another way. But again, the two guidance checked on everyone and got us back safely. It was the highlight of my birthday Iceland trip. I missed most of the views during the ride bc I was so nervous and focused on the road. But at the stop doe pictures its BEAUTIFUL. Well worth the mini strokes I had to get there! Another beautiful sight was Tomas. Yeah yeah I know....keep your eyes on the road! But still didn't hurt to know a good looking guy is watching out for you and will rescue you if you need it faints in...
Read moreReally upset about this company, at the beginning everything look good, Olaf pick us up at 8 pm (very punctual). We were at the company around 8:25. They gave us to read the rules and sign a consent form. NEVER asked for our Driver's license. We wore a gear and then they (Olaf and his coworker) gave us a chat, maybe less than 5 minutes about how to drive and how to go from 4x4 to 4x2, 8:45 pm we started our ride, we were very excited, we were 11 people in that tour. At 9:17 pm we made a stop, we took some pictures and we were ready to keep going, so I asked Olaf how many more stops we're going to have and surprisingly he told me only this stop and we returned, so I was confused... we supposed to see "Sunset", I saw a nice view at 9:20 pm but not a sunset, we came back at 10:15, so we had a ride of 1 hr and 15 min with 15 min of break. Plus restrooms didn't have toilet paper. They were rushed and told us if we could put everything back where we find it so they are not going to clean the ski masks or any equipment. Finally our dropped off was at 10:33 pm. This tour supposed to be between 3-4 hours, we had the FASTEST tour of 2 hrs and 30 min with no sunset view, I was so excited to do this because I picked this activity for my birthday, we came back really DISSAPOINTED. I saw the sunset from my...
Read moreOriginally, I booked a tour with a competitor. The following day I called the competitor just to confirm the pickup location, and they said ummm...we've got you for the 5pm tour, not the 1pm tour. That didn't work with my flight schedule, so they said they'd refund me and suggested I contact Safari.
I am SO glad that I did! About 40 minutes before the tour, I was able to book with them. They picked me up at my hotel and were fantastic. They bundle you up in warm gear, including gloves, a balaclava, snowmobile-looking suit and a helmet. Our guide was Hanna, who was really nice. We had a young group who enjoyed going hard and fast up the mountains, which made it even more fun. We crossed rivers, lots of puddles, and mud. Even if you’re a novice with riding an ATV, it’s made super comfortable for you. She stops everyone to tell you when to switch to 4-wheel drive and back to 2-wheel drive.
Aside from the fun, I really loved that the handlebars were heated! This kept my hands toasty.
I loved every bit of Iceland that I got to explore, and can’t wait to come back. So much so that I even looked up how feasible it would be to move there. I also texted my husband back home that we have GOT to get some ATV's ourselves to pacify us before...
