Read moreDisappointing experience with the temple priests. Today I visited the temple with my sister for an Abhishek ritual. The priests there seemed to be Marathi. My sister was not wearing jeans or a top—she was properly dressed in a saree, and not even a fashionable or flashy one, just a simple plain saree appropriate for religious rituals.
However, the priest told us that she must wear a "Marathi-style saree" in order to perform the Abhishek. This makes no sense—why should wearing a specific regional saree be mandatory for a religious ritual? It felt like they were enforcing the same kind of thinking as the one going around in Maharashtra nowadays—“If you live in Maharashtra, speak Marathi.”
When people visit a temple with faith and respect, they don’t expect to be treated in this way. This kind of behavior is truly disappointing.
