Aravalli Biodiversity Park, located on the border of Delhi and Gurugram, is a spectacular ecological success story. Once barren and degraded due to mining, the area has now turned into a lush green oasis following a dedicated restoration effort.

What is it famous for?

Ecological restoration: The park is an example of how a desolate area can be transformed into a dense forest with a diverse ecosystem. It is an important carbon sink and plays a vital role in purifying the air of Gurugram.

Biodiversity: The park is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including:

Plants: Over 300 native plant species, including trees, shrubs and grasses. The focus here is particularly on the flora of the Aravalli range.

Birds: It is a popular spot for bird lovers, with over 180 species having been recorded, including wintering migratory birds.

Animals: It is home to a number of mammals such as the nilgai, jackal, porcupine and rabbit, as well as a number of reptiles and insect species such as butterflies and moths.

Conservation: The park focuses on preserving the natural heritage of the Aravalli range, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. It uses sustainable practices such as compost and gravity-fed drip irrigation systems.

Location and Timings

The park is located near the Arjangarh Air Force Station on the border of Delhi and Gurugram. There are two main ways to reach here: one from Vasant Vihar in Delhi and the other from DLF Phase 3 in Gurugram. The nearest metro stations are Guru Dronacharya and Arjangarh.

Timings: The park is generally open from early morning (around 6:00 am) to late evening (around 7:00 pm or 9:00 pm), although the timings may vary. It is better to check before visiting.

Entry Fee: There is no fee to enter the park.

Aravali Biodiversity Park is located in Gurgaon, Haryana on the Acharya Shree Tulsi Marg, DLF Phase-3, Sector-24. It is open to the public from 6AM–11 AM and 3PM–7 PM daily. It is a natural biodiversity park, not a plantation. There are several concrete pathways inside to walk within the park and to absorb the wilderness all around. It is an entire island of marvellous wilderness within the crowded & congested area of city roads, buildings and congestion. Plenty of free but enclosed parking space is available. Arrangements for drinking water are available in the park. Big, clean toilets are available at the entrance. There is no entry fee to the park. It is located right on a wide road and is easily accessible. Guru Dronacharya Metro Station is quite near. The park is very popular with the walkers and joggers. The terrain of the park is all minor steeps and downs. There is also a sunrise point. The park is in its raw form with semi arid land vegetation, naturally grown native trees and shrubs. The best part is that the air inside the park is smells fresh. We can spot several peacocks some birds too. The Aravalli Biodiversity Park was dedicated to the nation by the Hon'ble Lt. Governor of Delhi, Mr. Najeeb Jung, in the year 2015. The Aravali Biodiversity Park, Gurgaon, which is located on the Aravali Hills, was previously full of many mining pits and had many stone crushers. With the ban on mining activities and other disturbances by the Supreme Court of India, and ecological restoration of the area, the Aravali Biodiversity Park, Gurgaon shaped up. The only bad part is that there is an abundance of stray dogs inside the park and some people feel pride in feeding them. Their population is multiplying like anything. It is steadily...

Aravalli Biodiversity Park in Gurugram is a natural gem, offering a serene escape from the city's hustle. Spread across 390 acres, it’s a beautifully restored ecosystem that showcases the Aravalli region’s native flora and fauna.

The park is perfect for morning walks, jogging, or just soaking in nature’s tranquility. The well-maintained trails wind through lush greenery, making it a haven for birdwatchers and photographers. Over 180 species of birds and 100 species of butterflies can be spotted here, adding vibrant life to the landscape.

One of the standout features is its commitment to ecological restoration. Once degraded by mining, the area has been transformed into a thriving green space with over 200 native plant species. It plays a vital role in improving air quality and recharging groundwater in Gurugram.

The park also promotes environmental education, hosting workshops, nature walks, and community events to raise awareness about biodiversity. Whether you’re a family looking for a quiet picnic spot or a nature enthusiast, the park has something for everyone.

Best time to visit is early morning or evening when the weather is pleasant, and the wildlife is most active. Entry is free, but respect for the environment is a must – no littering or disturbing the habitat.

a) Excellent green belt for walkers, although the walking track is bumpy and broken in many parts, with nobody to care or report to. b) Almost all the concrete chairs earlier placed in the park for resting during walks have been removed and heaped together behind the Park Office near the main gate. Ergo, now there are no places to rest during walks. So please note, senior citizens ! c) Walking tracks are littered with dog poop in many places. So careful, my dear walkers ! d) The green bushes on both sides of the walking track are growing wild and unkempt. Regular trimming would be in order. e) The walking track would be best shared with bicycling enthusiasts, but for some reason known only to the park managers, bicyclists are stopped from entering the park at the main gate. f) Some cut log stools are seen on the ground at some places, but all of these are strategically placed only at the security guard posts, so they're probably meant as resting stools for security guards. g) Walkers, please carry your own water bottle, because the two so called drinking water kiosks (or whatever they are supposed to be called) have been dry ever since they were put up. h) There should be a weblink or a phone number for posting suggestions and feedback by the walkers prominently displayed at the main gate.
