Safilguda Lake Overview

The Safilguda Lake, which is located in the district of Old Neredmet, is a favourite spot among residents of the nearby areas for morning walks, jogging, meditation, etc. There is also a small island in the middle of the lake, called the Nadimi Bird Island which is covered with thick timber that attracts many migratory birds. There is also a park adjacent to the lake known as the Safilguda Lake Park. Apart from that, the kids also love visiting the lake as it also has a play area in the Safilguda Lake Park. The boundary of the lake is similar to that of the famous Tank Bund of Secunderabad, so it is also popularly known as the Mini tank Bund.The Safilguda lake has a large species of migratory birds migrating throughout the year due to the rich biodiversity of the lake. The most common birds which can be found in the lake area are Little Grebe, Spot-Billed Duck, Pond Heron, Black Crowned Night Heron, Bronzed Winged Jacana, Kingfishers, Cuckoos, Ducks, Storks, Pigeons, Doves, Leafbirds, Bulbuls and many more. The fascinating sight at the lake is of Kingfishers catching fishes in their style from above the water. Green-backed heron, black ducks and storks are also among the other major attractions of the lake. The migratory birds, the thick vegetation and the rich biodiversity of the Safilguda Lake entice many Birdwatchers, Photographers and nature lovers to visit the lake. You can also go for a walk at the lake at any morning for the calm and composed environment surrounding it.

A decent cleanliness is being maintained in main entrance portion. The side walk adjacent to Krupa complex has to be improved. In that end toilets are needed. Many a people ease themselves on the sidewalk of the residences. During rainy season the water logging is observed in patches at least over dozen places. The main entrance is being blocked by haphazard parking of all types of vehicles. The toilet available is poorly maintained. For senior citizens it is very discomfortable. Notwithstanding it is quite a nice place to spend time with family, friends and joggers, walkers. Garden is very enchanting. Users have more resoonsiblities in maintaining cleanliness. Once in a while law enforcing agencies is required to visit the place to make the users learn about cleanliness as happening in Pune.Umpteen no of dustbins are provided. But it's usage is limited. Civic authorities visit will be effective in mitigating and improving maintenance...

A wonderful place for morning & evening walks without any interruption from vehicular traffic. It even has playground for kids & exercise facility for both adults & kids. During the mornings, one can have a glass of healthy Millets (Ragi) drinks with toppings like Groundnuts, Grated Carrot, Grated Beetroot, Sweet Corn, Sabja Seeds, Spices, Curd etc.. sold near the Safilguda HP Petrol Bunk end of the Lake Park at just ₹15. In the evenings, Vijaya Dairy Parlour opens up on the Lake Park, offering delicious sweets & other dairy products. Unfortunately Water Hyacinth weed has eaten up nearly half of the lake. But thankfully deweeding process is going on to remove these unwanted weeds. The morning sunrise & the evening sunset are the most beautiful picturesque scenes that one should never miss!
